Electrical question...
« on: February 24, 2015, 04:44:01 am »
I've noticed lately upon turning the ignition switch to start the motor on my '99 Dodge CTD a non-start...I can hear the starter drive engage but not spin the motor...just a click. If I try again it may momentarily turn the motor but quits again. After a few attempts the starter engaged normally and started the motor. I checked the electrical connections at the starter and cleaned them but the problem still persists. Any suggestions on the fix? Starter selenoid? Ignition Switch?

Sounds like a worn out Solenoid contact.  Easiest way to fix it is just get a new/reman starter.  If you're feeling like doing a bit more work some of them are rebuildable, but you'd have to know what starter you're dealing with and do some digging for the solenoid parts.

I had the same problem and rebuilt mine with parts from fixinrams.com.  Was a lot cheaper than buying a new starter.
