S&B CAI kits
« on: December 23, 2016, 06:22:59 pm »
For those who use S&B:
1. Do you install and remove the box plug depending on season/outside temps?
2. Anyone use the optional "scoop" they sale?

I don't think mine had any optional plugs to increase airflow -- if it did that means I never found it :D  I used the stock intake location.

I think you are referring to the rubber plug. If you remove it, you are allowing more hot air to flow thus resulting to a louder turbo sound.

All irrelevant now... Since I traded in the truck for the new one. Sold the CAI.

But I was referring to the bottom of the CAI box where the filter sits in. You can have the bottom of the box opened or closed. According to S&B you leave the bottom open during the cooler temps (allow more cooler air in) and close it off during the hotter temps (prevent hot air from the road in).

Do CAI's really improve a vehicle's horsepower and fuel efficiency?

You will get a lot of different opinions on that question. Of course the manufactures say you do, some users say you do...but others who say you do not. I did not keep good enough mpg notes to tell if the one I had did anything or not. One of the members of this forum who was into performance said that a CAI would not benefit until you were into 500-600 hp range when the motor really needed to breath.
