Title: Smarty for Dummies DIY - 5.9 & 6.7 CTD
Post by: Cumminalong on December 31, 2008, 04:29:30 am
Okay, this DIY is to help you through the process of updating Smarty to either the Revo or TNT software. It's not a plug and play device and can be a bit frustrating the first time you do it.

It is HIGHLY advised to return your truck to STOCK settings before installing a new program onto Smarty.

The first thing you need to do is visit MADS website and download the appropriate files for the update.....

Here are all the links to the downloads for the Smarty S06, 03 - 07 trucks. It took me a while to figure it out the first time:

First, you need the driver installation guide (instructions).....

http://www.madselectronics.com/downloadfiles/USBDriverinstallation.pdf (http://www.madselectronics.com/downloadfiles/USBDriverinstallation.pdf)

Then you need the driver itself.....

http://www.madselectronics.com/downloadfiles/CDM_2.00.00.zip (http://www.madselectronics.com/downloadfiles/CDM_2.00.00.zip)

Then you need the actual program itself to load the Revo software.....

http://www.madselectronics.com/downloadfiles/SmartyUSB.exe (http://www.madselectronics.com/downloadfiles/SmartyUSB.exe)

Lastly, you need WinRAR to unzip the Revo.7z file you downloaded. The unzipped file is what the SmartyUSB loads onto the Smarty.....

http://internap.dl.sourceforge.net/sourceforge/sevenzip/7z457.exe (http://internap.dl.sourceforge.net/sourceforge/sevenzip/7z457.exe)

Next, you need to follow the instructions for the driver installation in the guide. Follow these closely! If you do not, you will be pulling your hair out. The pictures below are extracts from the Driver Installation Guide.....

Now that we have downloaded and installed the driver, we need to download and extract the tune (Revo or TNT) that we want to use.

Once the file is downloaded, it needs to be extracted with WinRAR. This is a free download, just google it and you'll find the program....

Once the file is extracted, we need to install it on the Smarty. See the pictures below.....

You only have to go through this long process once.

Once the driver is installed, all you need to do in the future is download and extract the file that you want to use, plug in smarty and run the program to install the new tune.

Just cause I know :quote: someone :quote: will ask / think this...

You must provide your own USB cable.  The Smarty did not come with one ... Mads does not sell one.  Any standard USB cable will work just fine.

Rich GREAT JOB!!

It's not that bad.

The biggest PITA is getting the driver installed.

After that it's just like taking a song on a CD, ripping it and saving it to an MP3 player.

Found this handy dandy 'user' manual for the Smarty.  I didn't get one of these w/ my unit so I figured someone else might not have gotten it also.

just a side note for vista users, you do not have to install the driver... Windows does it for you.
