Signed on the line for new 5er
« on: July 04, 2016, 12:06:43 am »
Well yesterday we finally got the new 5th wheel we've been looking for. We take delivery next week.

Who has the 5th wheel hitch knowledge here? I have to get one ASAP. Prices seem to vary widely and there are a lot of choices. Can you guys help me narrow it down?

It's been a while, so hopefully the link I posted below will show a pic of the new rig.

Thanks guys.

I ordered a hitch today from a local truck accessory place that I've done business with for years. Its a Curt 16K lb standard 5th wheel hitch. The head pivots front back and side to side, and it has a two jaw locking mechanism. Pretty sure it'll get the job done. I was looking at getting the B&W turnover ball and the companion 5th wheel hitch, but that would have doubled the cost. I also opted to have them install the hitch as I'm in a time crunch.

What say you guys about lube on the king pin? I'm getting one of those plastic plates to go between the hitch and the pinbox, but what about lube on the king pin itself?

All I used was the teflon plate. I never put any lube on the king pin itself. Every now and then I would spray down the inside of the hitch with silicone or other type lubricant spray.
