The 48RE is a decent transmission just a bit weak for the Cummins.

Once you add hp ... you will bake your TC & clutch pack eventually.... we all do :argh:

Just add a modified transmission to your mod list now and get ready for it.

if your planning on plowing and not hopping up the power too much you should be all right.  A trans temp gauge is a must.

I'll be keeping it stock for sure.  5.7 Hemi in it, not nearly the torque of a Cummins.  Plenty of power for me.  I just wanted a good, newer plow truck that I can haul and tow something with if needed.  I don't think it will see any more than 5K miles/year..........

Isn't there a 47RE in the 2500 gassers??

I do like this site  :punk:  That was my guess, will hook up the scanner this weekend.
Pretty excited about the truck, seems pretty stout.  Front end actually feels real tight.

Question for you guys about the trannies on these things........I've heard all kinds of horror stories about Dodge trannies but is there really a problem as long as stuff is maintained and used properly??  I'm going to use the truck to plow so I plan on installing an aftermarket tranny temp gauge.  I'll also flush the tranny and put in new fluid.  With the right maintenance and care should I really expect any probelms at 107K miles???  It feels fine, shifts fine.

I knew you would!

I have been on a few different forums in the past and this one is by FAR the best. The reason behind it is respect, everyone has it here (plus were not that big yet)!

I logged onto that plowsite in hopes of finding work but as i was browsing, i found that there are some real pricks in there! I guess thats what happens when you combine truck owners of different brands.

I wanted to throw this site (DOF) around to a few of the other Dodge guys in there but i dont wanna get in trouble for 'recruiting'. But i figured you had a problem, so it wouldn't hurt  :whistling:

Thanks, I appreciate the invite.  I have no loyalty........my 1/2 ton is an 07 Tundra which I love but 1/2 tons aren't made to plow with.  I got a great deal on this Dodge and that's why I have it.  My girlfriend has had a couple different Jeeps so we have experience with Mopar!  I'm a firm believer that if you take care of your stuff it will last.

FYI- I tried the key thing tonight for the codes and got no where.  I'm hoping someone was just messin' with me

No, it really does work!

Maybe your model year does not do it

Or... maybe you were doing it wrong

Just like 1slowformula said:

Put the key in, turn it to the on position, then turn it back, then turn it to the on position again, then turn it back, and then one more time.

I wait for the bell to chirp before i turn the key back to the off position which translates to about a second or 2.

Once you get to end of the 3rd sequence, you will see the codes (if any) show up on the meter where it shows your trip/odo.

But then again, like i said, im not sure exactly what years this option was built into.

If your ABS and "brake" light are on, you most likely need a Rear wheel speed sensor on the top of the rear differential.  My guess on the vibration is the mid shaft bearing that is if it is a 2 piece drive shaft.  Or the rear most u-joint...  OH BTW, welcome to the forum...

I believe that only works for engine codes, but I'm not sure.

IF there are no CEL codes you will get Done on the ODO.

If no done...you didn't time it right.

It's called the :quote: key trick :quote: for a reason ... I know one super hero who didn't even know how to do it and had to ask for help :whistling:
