hehe

I was bs'n w/ a stang guy a few weeks ago and he asked me how much boost I was running.  His eyes got the size of saucers when I told him I bounced off 32 psi.

His jaw hit the floor when I told him that was stock and w/ twins guys are seeing 50+ psi.  He had thought his 10 psi was hot shit

One is boost and one is drive pressure. Drive pressure is the back pressure being created by the restriction of the turbo.

Ahhhh OK...What would be the benefits of monitoring drive pressure?

I get lost in the tech on this subject, but in essence the ratio between boost and drive pressure becomes important for turbo life and performance.

The closer to 1:1 that you get the ratio between drive pressure and boost, the more efficient your system is working.

Normally, with a single turbo setup you see somewhere in the neighborhood of 2:1 (drive:boost), or more. This isn't very efficient, causes a lot of stress on the turbo and doesn't result in the best EGT reduction.

Now, with a twin setup, you can get much closer to 1:1 (1.1 - 1.3:1 is pretty normal). This results in all much more of the exhaust energy being used, making power, and cooling EGT's.

The better you get that ratio, the more efficient your engine is working. Remember, an engine is just a big air pump.

I know the HE351 is out of its map at 47psi.  But my drive pressures are still ok then.  47psi of boost I tend to see 70psi of drive.  So 1.5:1 ratio.  IAT's only hit about 153F.
