2nd gen trans temp T install
« on: January 21, 2010, 05:48:44 am »
i bought a trans temp T from rich at doghouse diesel. this is my DIY for any one else who plans on doing one of them. here is a pic of the T

some of the tools required

i started off marking the pipe on where i wanted to cut it

then i removed the line from the truck

next u take the pipe cutter and cut the pipe. ( a hacksaw would work if a a pipe cutter is unavailable)

then i put the T between the two pieces and snugged them down, didnt torque them all the way down so i had a little give when i went to reinstall on the truck.

then i reinstalled the line. (pictures above if u dont know where to put the lines back to)

once i got the line back on and tightend up, i tightened the fittings on the T. i used two wrenches to do so

then i put the adapter in and tightened it down, i put teflon tape on it after i realized it was leaking

then i put my trans temp sensor in and tightened it up also

i hope this helps some one in the future. thanks for reading

Nice writeup :2cool:   The one question I have is, do you install this in the hot line, or the return line from the cooler?  Only reason I ask is because I have a friend who does the hot, and another friend who put the sender in the pan... so it would be the cool line basically.

You want it in the hot line. That's what tells you what the trans is really doing.

Putting it in the pan is an average temp of the fluid AFTER it's been cooled.

It's like the difference between mounting an EGT probe pre-turbo vs post-turbo.

Gotcha, thanks for the heads up.  If/when I ever decide to throw some gauges in my truck, you can bet that i'll be ordering one of these.  :)
