Which RTV??
« on: April 29, 2010, 03:02:19 am »
I am preparing to change the differential and tranny fluid in my '07 Ram 1500 3.7, and know that neither the diff cover nor the tranny pan require a gasket.  Rather, they take a bead of RTV.  There are many different types of RTV out there...if I go to NAPA or Autozone, which type, or types, do I need?

Any of the Permatex brand ULTRA RTV's will work fine as they are all resistant to chemicals and oils.  I prefer Ultra Black or Ultra Blue.

Check the packages when you look at them.  The packages will list temperature range, what systems it can work in and other info like curing time.

I used Permatex Ultra Black on my differential and that would probably work well on the trans pan, too.
