Easier tow rating guide
« on: May 09, 2010, 05:55:48 am »
Found this, just punch in your info and it will give all the numbers for towing with your rig. Start at the top with the year, more drop down menus at the bottom. I had to scroll up to see them. It told me that I can get a bigger trailer.  :punk:

Sweet find

However, I think 16,400lbs of trailer looks good on paper, but is a little more then my truck can handle in real life.

Nick they did have a Disclaimer about Tongue Weight and Hitch Ratings

While it's not listed in the charts, tongue weight is also an important consideration. The recommended tongue weight is between 10 & 15% of the trailer weight. However, the maximum tongue weight on Class III (The bumper ball) is limited to 500 lbs, and Class IV (The receiver hitch) to 1200 lbs. This requirement overrides any recommended GTW rating, between 10% and 15% of gross trailer weight (GTW). Additionally, the GAWRs and GVWRs should never be exceeded.

Max. trailer tow weight is how much it can tow, regardless of hitch. The "bumper pull" hitch weights, for our trucks anyway, is usually rated at the max. rating for the hitch. The class lV hitch on our trucks is rated at 1000lbs tongue weight and max. 10,000lbs trailer weight. So even though I can tow a max 15k plus trailer weight, I'm limited to 10k for a bumper pull.
