NC G2G eats
« on: May 13, 2010, 12:33:26 am »
Okay, what do we want to do for food? I'm not thinking anything to formal. I was thinking munchies and such for Friday as people will be arriving throughout the afternoon and or evening. We can do breakfast, maybe french toast and/or pancakes or donuts or whatever, depending on if we all meet up at the campground or at the track sat. morning. Lunch will probably be something at the track.

As for saturday dinner, I was thinking about a smoked pork loin, but I want to watch the racing instead of staring at a smoker all day.  I could still do it, just smoke it thursday and heat it up in the camper for dinner. Could also do Coney dogs on the grill/fire. The bar/restaurant where my wife works, make a pretty darn good home made coney sauce.  I will also bring down potato salad and a some deserts and such. Anyone else have any ideas?

That's what I was thinking about smoking the loin before I come. That way I can put it on trays and stick it in the oven for a little bit to heat it up. Oh, and that would be a Flint style coney sauce, not Detroit.  ;D

Yeah, I'm with Batty, keep it simple. It's about a 6 hour drive for us, we can bring supplies or just pick stuff up when we get there.

I'm all for hot dogs and burgers for dinner.  I'll have to check with the wife to see what she wants to bring, might be more brownies (she's been on a brownie kick lately.)  But I'll check with her later today.

Oh, we might have one more joining us.  DodgeKitten is thinking about convoying up with us for this.

As much as i am for going all out on food, i think this weekend might be a good candidate for easy foods.

Burgers, dogs, sausage, maybe some bbq chicken along with a bunch of sides will work out awesome for me!

I would like to be one of the people to bring something considering i did brought nothing to the last G2G.

How about some kogel hot dogs? Or even better... Italian sausage from a favorite place that makes them locally?

Ken- Whats the difference between Detroit and Flint coneys? I already know Detroit's are better, but im just curious.  :tt2:

Detroit style is basically chili with out the beans. Flint style is a little dryer, more like a relish or so. The best are Lafayette's in Detroit and Angelo's in Flint. These are kings in the coney dog world. Todoroff's in Jackson actually invented the coney sauce. Neat fact: They were first called coney dogs when a guy put a hot dog in a bun and started selling them at Coney Island NY. They did not have sauce, just mustard. The coney sauce is pure Michigan.

If you would like Nick, you can bring some dogs and sausage. And I'm sure you know there are only 2 kinds of dog---Koegel's and Kawolski's.  :punk:

Now that i have been thinking about it, ill just bring a case of Italian sausages and maybe some buns.

I usually do some type of cheese, onions and peppers but i dunno if ill have everything to pull that off.

What do you guys think?

All I saw was a post by Nick that included him bringing "Sausage" and "Buns."

Well in reality, i do have a set of primo buns and sausage that i consider carry on.

But in no way shape or form will any of "my" stuff be put onto a plate during the get together.

Nick, you'll probably want to keep "your stuff" away from the grill, too.
