« on: June 16, 2010, 09:25:02 pm »
ok guys I have a 2003 dodge dually 3500 5.9, I replaced the lift pump in feb.. and ever since then it dies periodically.. like once every 3 weeks. here recently in the past month its been getting worse. so i talked around and i was 90 percent sure it was the injector pump...now they say bc i had to replace the lift pump it put strain on the injector pump...well it completley died on me about a week ago at a gas station..and could not get it to start so I towed it to my house and bought an injector pump..iv cranked on it about 20 times now and still nothing. any body have any ideas or anything i can check on. maybe a fuse or etc... thanks

Welcome to the forum - sorry it's because of a problem...

Do you have anyone that can scan it or pull codes (you should be able to yourself with the following trick)

Turn the key on (no crank), off, on, off, on (do all this within 5 seconds) and the codes should display in your odometer

Bring any codes you get back here, and we can try to help

quick question. . .do you know if you have had the in tank pump relocation mod for the lift pump?

now when it does run how does it run, sluggish? white smoke? popping or missing?

a fuel pressure gauge will tell if you ahve good pressure to the CP3, then a rail pressure gauge can tell you if you ahve good pressure from the CP3 to the injectors.

another item to check would be the rail pop-off valve. these will unseat if the pressure goes above 26,000psi. Once they unseat they will generaly not seat back properly causing the rail system to to pressurize properly.

Is this Doug?

If it is, and I think it is, I spoke to him on the phone earlier today.

The problem is he's not getting any power to the lift pump.....has an aftermarket pump on the frame rail.

Hot wire the pump and it works just fine.

He's checked all the fuses and connections, he's gonna trace all the wires next.

Someone else put the pump in, so he wasn't too sure of the wiring.
