Crack in Manifold
« on: August 05, 2008, 04:46:30 pm »
I pulled my intake manifold today to fix the plenum and i discovered very tiny cracks where my fuel injectors go in. They have not gone through the casting all the way, but they are crackes. Is this no good? Should i buy a new one?

I would replace it. It will probably crack all the way through eventually, and start leaking unfiltered air into the intake.

yeah i ordered a m1 from summit today. I looked at the crack more and its going into the gasket mating surface, which will cause vaccum leaks. When it rains it pours. Hey atleast ill get some more HP from this, its always a good thing.

With the m1 youll loose your low end tq, and the m1s power band is in the 5000rpm mark so you wouldnt notice any difference. You might notice a little difference because this inake isnt cracked but compared to what a non cracked keg would be, your loosing power in your driving range.

Yeah, if I were you, I'd cancel the m1 and find a manifold off a salvage truck or somewhere, and then cut the runners down ("keggar mod") before you installed it.

Dude...that would make one Hellava DIY write up! The Motha of all write ups!

I wonder how many modifications you'd have to change. Of course motor mounts, but what about the suspension or axles?

Got to say that it would be a big commitment.

You can start out like you previously described, and address things that you see, as needed.

New coils up front should be it as far as suspension, he's got a 2500 already so it shouldnt be bad, if you go 12v computer shouldnt be a prob either just gonna have to separate the elec harness and all.  May be easier to go with a harness from painless or centech thats universal.  If you have the 5.9 gasser I am almost certain the tranny you have will bolt up as well but dont hold me to it.  Your gonna run into a few small things here and there but shouldnt be too bad at all.  Let me know if you want some help I could drive down to GA for a couple days, get drew and rich to come over and we could get it in by the weekend HA

Brotha, I'd be all over that one. That would be a good time.

I'm not sure how much would actually get done, we'd all be fighting over who gets to install what....
