Our trip to PA, NJ, NYC
« on: August 01, 2010, 03:38:39 am »
Ok, I'll play along. Here are some pics from PA at my Mom's place.

The stream that runs right next to the house. 2 days later we had some heavy rain and this meek stream turned into a raging river!

The field across from the house, there are usually a deer or two out there in the morning or evening.

The next few are from Liberty State Park in Jersey City, NJ.
This is an old train terminal that is abandoned now.

The Statue of Liberty

The local fauna

Ellis Island

My kids with Lady Liberty in the background.

The inlaws, wife, and kids with lower Manhattan in the background, the Trade Center buildings should be there!

The Empire State Building, once the tallest building in the world.

Lower Manhattan again....

The next few are from the ferry terminal in Weehawken, NJ.
Jerome on an old propeller, I guess this came off one of the ferries.

Pulling out from NJ on the ferry

The trip over to NY looking south down the Hudson, you can barely see the Varanzano Bridge in the distance.

Looking north that is the George Washington Bridge in the distance.

The USS Intrepid air and space museum.

The next few are from NYC around the Times Square area. If you watch the ball drop in NY on New Years Rockin Eve here it is..

Military Recruiting station in Times Square.

The Hard Rock Cafe in NY. I once ate a carnation here (long story) and Eric Clapton was eating dinner there that night, but I couldn't get to him. ;D

A little NYC traffic

My daughter and her Grandma in front of Aeropostale which wasn't open yet, she wasn't happy.

Oops, how did that get here? ;D

Some guys making money....

The M&M Store sign. The pictures moved and were made of M&M's.

The Hershey Chocolate Store

I don't know who they were escorting but there were a LOT of NYC cops in the motorcade.

Self Explanatory. BTW, this particular intersection didn't used to be family friendly back in the day.

Pulling out from NY on the Ferry.

My boy driving the Ferry back to NJ. ;D

It's fun to visit, but I would NOT want to live there or even have to work there......

Thanks for the pics Nick! Looks like everyone had a great time, despite the traffic snarls.

Is the best way to visit NYC, by way of the ferry? I couldn't imagine trying to drive into the city never having been there. I did drive over the GW bridge, heading north on I-95. Told myself I'd never do that again. :argh:

Cool pics of Jerome at the helm. Bet he really enjoyed that experience!

Walt, we always park in NJ and take the ferry or a train over to NYC. It depends on where in the city you want to go as to which is the best way in. Personally I love the boat ride so I am partial to the ferry, but we entertained going on the train like we did last year, but parking near the train in NJ was limited for my truck, so we opted to go the other route. We did have fun as we usually do there. I think the picture of Jerome smiling says it all. ;D

BTW if you find yourself HAVING to go over the GW bridge again, take the upper level going into the city and the lower level coming back out.

The ONLY times I EVER used to go to the city was for a baseball or football game.

Otherwise, we'd drop the boat in just south of West Point and head south on the Hudson to one of the marinas.

It was WELL worth the fee to dock the boat at the marina to not have to fight with any of the traffic.

Only thing that sucked was once you got below the Tappanzee Bridge, it was like running an obstacle course.

ALWAYS make sure you had a spare prop and floating prop nut wrench.

And steer clear of federal water, I got met by these boats one day and those guys don't phuck around.
