I was reading a book that the SLP had in the room while I waited to see some kids. The author stated that the way people in New England, mainly Boston, speak is actually the correct way to speak. The dropping of the /r/ sound was actually a sign of class/money. The wealthy in England viewed that as an educated accent, and it was those people who came over and started the 13 original colonies. So the next time I get made fun of for having a funny accent I am just going to tell them that they can laugh all they want- At least I come from money!!
