What do you guys think?
« on: August 19, 2010, 12:16:28 am »
So I might have an opportunity to trade a guy straight up for a CTD.  I'd be trading my '96 1500 4x4 RC SB 360ci, auto, 3" lift, 35" tires, Custom winch bumper, dual batteries and 157K miles.  The paint is peeling bad, and it has some other little problems.

The Cummins is also a '96, 2500 2wd RC LB, auto., the paint is in similar shape and it has a few issues with the body.  The only other thing is it has a LOT of miles, like 400K miles.

I haven't seen it in person yet, but I'm going to go meet the guy this weekend and take a look at it.  If he's willing to do the trade, do you guys think its a good deal or not?  I'll try and put up the few pics I've gotten of the CTD in a few.

Do you have your fenders trimmed at all to fit the 35's on there.

I would deffinatley take a good look at the ctd we all know they can run a long time but if it were ran hard for 400k i would personaly think twice.

Eric, judging by the shape your truck is in, if the tranny feels good, the engine is strong, no smoke on start up, no oil in the tail pipe, I would say its a heck of a deal. From all the issues you have had with your truck over the part few years, I would do it.

Blake kinda said the same thing, but I haven't really had any major issues with my truck in a long time,  It hasn't left me stranded anywhere.  My blue truck doesn't look the best, but it runs strong.

It doesn't look too god awful bad. It shows its age, and that it was actually used. I wouldn't want to give up that bumper though man. Not a Don Thuren 1 off bumper. The exterior looks to be in pretty bad shape. Judging by visual appearance now that I can see it, I don't thing it is justifiable just because it is a diesel.

I think you aught to sand and rattle can your truck. Doing that, you may be able to get someone to buy it.

imo, it depends on what ya plan on doing. which one suits ur purpose the best. the way u have ur truck built it looks like u enjoy off roading. and if u traded for the ctd, u wouldnt be able to. the ctd, u would be able to pull trailers and DD and that would be about it. with 400k, if the auto is the origninal, it wont be able to handle any extra power

I have seen people say the ctd isn't good for off roading. Are we talking mudding (because of the extra weight) or just trails?

the truck he will be trading is a 2wd so no off roading

there not the best in the mud because of the extra weight in the front end, and there not the best for trials because of there size, but i know of plenty of poeple that use there trucks to play in the mud and trials

Keep your truck.  It may need some work but at least you know what has been done to it.  I can't imagine trading for a truck with 400K miles no matter what it is  :banging:  I don't know how much you use 4 wheel drive but I couldn't imagine going without it especially after having it in another truck.  Were you seriously talking about off roading with a 2 wheel drive truck ? :suicide:
Good luck with whatever you decide

I enjoy off-roading, but I don't really do it at all anymore.  And my other truck is already a 4x4 and diesel, but my wife drives that one most of the time.  I don't think I'm gonna make the trade, but I already told the guy I'd take a look at it.  The thing about keeping my truck is that in about a month I'm going to have to drive it to KY and I'll be there for over a month, then I'll have to drive back to TX, then turn around and drive it to GA.  I'm not sure its going to make it, at the same time, not sure I want to trade for something like this Cummins and then take it on a trip like that without having owned it that long.

From a looks standpoint, I'd keep your rig.

Function?  that's your call.

overally, I'd keep yours, maybe throw a clean coat of paint then maybe sell.
