How To: Posting Help
« on: September 19, 2010, 04:12:23 pm »
Threads and polls are how all the wonderful information is shared.  That's the bread and butter of this place.  So lets make sure everyone knows how to do it. :)

New Threads and Polls can be started from any board.  Select the area you want the post to show up in and click New Topic or New Poll in the right hand corner.  Subjects and bodies are required; everything else is optional.

When using the "Reply" button you will get the full posting editor. So you can use the buttons to add formatting and similes

When you select a button you will get the BB coding with your cursor in between were you need to enter the text you want to show with that coding.

When using the Quick Reply (after enabling in your profile) you can manually enter any BB coding you'd like applied to your post.

To include attachments with your post

Pictures and videos make threads great. But how do you get that stuff to show up?  Well DOF has some great built in tools that make it really easy.

Videos:
Videos are automatically embbeded from many web sites.  All you need to do is include the URL where the video can be seen in any browser in the post.

StreetFire

YouTube

Images:
Images can either be uploaded to the DOF server as an attachment or embeded from another site.

Attachment-
Select Additional Options... at the bottom of the reply box
use the Browse window to select the image from your computer
-up to 10 attachments per post
-up to 5.5 mb
-valid file extensions for attachments: doc, gif, jpg, mpg, pdf, png, txt, bmp

From another site-
The  :img::/img: bb codes allow you to select a image file from an outside web site and have it show in the post.

Just figured I would re-state the Video posting here.  Seems to again be a bunch of confusion on how to get video's to embed.

The Video add-on is fully functional again (yeah I know we broke for a while there ... but it's back :D ) so only the URL from You Tube is needed. The software does everything else.
