i haven't owned a 4cyl but i've driven them, and as previously stated they are worthless, if your going up a grade, don't even think about passing anyone, just put your foot in it and try to hold your speed. My dad has an 81 CJ8 with the 258 I6, which i beleive is the 4.2L, and that thing doesn't have a problem goin uphill with the 4spd, and always had power on the trail when it was needed. however, like aero mentioned earlier its a cj and it's on like its 5th clutch now i think, but then again, it's done a lot of trails, and my dad never upgraded the gears, so he had to use the clutch alot to control his speed.

 yeah, that and for my dads jeep you might as well keep around a whole spare jeep, i swear it seems like the only thing that doesn't need to be replaced on his jeep is the tub. About a month ago the tcase chain snapped  :argh: and it's gonna be quite the adventure to replace it.

We had an 05 Wrangler with a 6cyl. that we bought new (my wife wanted one).  I absolutely HATED that vehicle! (no offense to anyone). It was a turd going down the highway, not much power. The worst part was driving in snow with it, it did excellent in snow while driving under 15 mph. Anything above that it was like driving a go kart, that thing would do a 360 going down a snow/ice covered highway before you knew what happened.
