46re to Nv4500 Ram 1500
« on: November 02, 2010, 02:41:34 am »
Well like the title says I doing a swap in my 1997 dodge ram ex cab short bed 5.2. I had a transmission code come up and basely saying that it slipping in overdrive to make a long story short. But I am tired of the 46re I have always change the oil ever year added transmission cooler eclectic fans and delete the check value, and still have this happen. After researching the aftermarket transmission for it and still reading guy blowing them up. I well say I run my truck hard, I’ll hook to my trailer that alone weights 2500 pounds never afraid to run it hard and always scared my transmission is going to let me down. So I started to research manual swap and found that the nv3500 are not any stronger and won’t take what I do. Then I figure out that in the ¾ ton dodge with 5.9 gas they used a nv4500. I know for a fact there a strong mother. So all I had to find is a dodge 2500 5.9 gas with a manual and in really bad shape so it be cheap. Your pro thinking the same thing, I’ll never found one. Well I found one and not only was it the same year and an ex cab short bed but it was walking distance from me. So I picked it up pretty cheaper last weekend and now I starting my swap. I well also have picture but also.

lol now your just getting a head of me, I keeping the short block for a 408 build hopefully this summer. Plus it burned a little oil, like A LOT.  ;D The reason why I am doing this is because my transmission now is starting to slip and been reading a lot of rebuilding them and no one really has a bullet poof setup for what i have read. The thought of dropping 2000-2500 for a auto transmission that might blow up at any time just makes me sick. Plus I have seen a all stock ram with a manual, well lets just say he blow my doors off! Which tells me that the auto transmission robs me of a lot of power but that pretty much a given.

Here a small update I took the transfer apart because I wanted to use the nv241. I had a feeling it was trashed because the front output shaft had a lot of play up and down. So I figure the bearing went and then the seal went leaking all the fluid out and burning every thing up and digging the case out. Boy do I love being wrong sometimes. It only had about a qt left in it. If that but it was only a bearing. So now I need a rebuild kit I been searching and found a few but don’t know who to go with. I need all the bearings, seals, chain and snap rings (I broke one).
