2nd gen 12 valve leveling kit
« on: November 10, 2010, 05:14:16 am »
Been doing some research on a spring replacement leveling kit for a 97 12v.  The kits I have found are specified for the 24v 98+ and the manufacturers are saying that with the few hundred pounds of weight difference in the motors, the ride will be rough.  The only option would be a replacement heavier bumper to offset the weight.  The bumper thing aint gonna happen anytime soon but the truck still needs to get leveled.

Anyone here know of a leveling kit specified for the 2nd gen 12 valves?  No spacers.  Or just the coil springs themselves?

I had a tough time finding anything as well.  :argh:  Out of curiosity, what do you have against the spacers?

Nothing in particular against the spacers.  I have had them before but wanted to do a coil replacement this time.  If I end up going with the spacers because there are no coils out there, then I'll probably go with the metal ones.  At this point the only coil options would be whats out there now for the 24v and just hope the ride isnt too bad and get a bumper later on.  For now I'll keep looking.

It is hard to beat the value of HBS spacers (Hell Bent Steel) when comparing both quality and cost.  I have run mine for... going on 3 years without an issue and still look new because they powder coat them.

Just figured I would post that info if you decide to go that route.  I'll still keep a lookout for 12v level springs though.

Trust me, they are very nice.  When I opened the box and felt how heavy they were, I knew the $65 shipped was well spent.  My buddy was impressed too so he ordered his and installed the following week in his white 2500.  I wouldn't hesitate to order another pair if I got a new truck.

$440 for 3 inch 2nd Gen coils.

I was on there earlier looking and ran across this...

http://www.thecarlisuspension.com/dodge-ram/suspension/levelingkit.html

It didn't specify diesel like the later models which is why I didn't post.  I knew they made 2500 / 3500 gassers & didn't wanna suggest the wrong part.  Nice find Mitch.  That ought to do the trick for him.

I had a set of their 2" spacers on my '97 and they held up great.
