Once again....
« on: February 07, 2011, 07:04:39 pm »
Since I have been away, quite a bit has happened. The most important, I got a new bike. The Sportster wasn't cutting it. I am 6'1", even with the forward controls on the Sportster, I found myself sitting on the back of the seat just to sit comfortable. Also, the small 2.7 gallon tank wasn't practical to get around anywhere. The ride was not enjoyable, as I had to plan my trips around where the next fuel station is.

So, 2 weeks ago, I got a 2011 H-D Fat Bob, in Demin Black. 5 gallon tank, it is the bike I wanted all along. Now I got it..

I don't like the forkbag, but I don't have anywhere to put my riding junk, so for now, its gotta stay.

Heavy Duty Bike there Mitch.

Do you feel much of a difference in the ride? I'm guessing that the Fatboy is more stable and comfortable (besides the ergonomics issue). Was the Sportster more nimble, if that's even possible?

Plain Jane Stock (for now)

Tom, I never even thought of that. I will give it a shot tomorrow.

Walt, the Fatbob is amazing. I think the handling is much better than the sportster. The tires on this bike are much wider than the tires on the sporty. It feels much more stable getting low into the corners. My missing rubber on my boots can attest to that. The ride is 10 times better as well. I don't want to get off the bike, ever. The Sportster, I couldn't wait to stop for fuel. The ride was hard. I felt every bump. There just wasn't any room. Oh, and it is much quicker as well, lol. Big engine. 96 Ci opposed to the 73.4 on the Sportster. I just broke the break in mileage, so I will see what shes got now, hehehe. Still too quiet though. I need some loud, black pipes wrapped in white header tape, and a set of ape's to finish it off.

I had a '87 883 sporty hugger in purple.  :punk:  The small 2.5 gal. tank got you about 100 miles. For me though, based on looks, I'd rather have the small tank than the large tank. The larger one just don't look right. As for comfort the sporty is what I refer to as a 'TT' bike....tavern to tavern.  That's cool bike you got, with the amount of riding you do it fits the bill just right.  Go with the 2" drag pipes, they aren't as tinny sounding as the 1 3/4" ones.  :43: Apes are cool, but cornering with apes not only sucks, it can be scary also. Trust me, been there, done that.  :whistling:
