My First Harley
« on: March 21, 2011, 04:15:02 pm »
My new bike.  2000 Harley Davidson Sportser.  It started out as an XL883, but the guy who originally bought it new had the motor redone to a 1200.   Not much other than that on modifications done to it.    Now all i need is the wind and the rain here in Whidbey to stop so i can go for a longer ride than just down my street.

SWEET!!
The guy actually did you a favor. I'm told that the "opened up" 883's run faster / better than the stock 1200's.
Best of luck with it!

Nice ride! I remember back when I had my 883 and the guys with the '1200 kits' could walk away from the stock 1200's. Is it carbed? Can't remember when they went to fuelies. If so throw on a set of 1 3/4 drag pipes and go up 2 jets in the carb. You will be impressed.  :43:

Congrats JB!  Don't be afraid of the weather ... just gear up and ride :D  Grab a map and look up the Cascade Highway ... hell of a bike run from what I hear.  I keep saying year after year I'm going to go up there and do it.

I enjoyed my ride to / from work today :)

Yea its still carbed.   Its already got screaming eagle II exhaust on it.   My buddie rode it the other day, and he said it was a hell of alot more powerful than his sock 1200.

And jo i aint afriad of the weather, the last time i was on a bike was 9 years years ago and that was on an old CBR 600, this bike ride a helluva lot different than that.  Need to get used to it first.

If it's been that long (Hell I didn't even think you were out of diapers 9 years ago :tt2) make sure you take one of the MSF courses!  In WA it means you don't have to take any of the tests to get your endorsement first off; but more importantly they are some very good classes that will knock the dust off your riding skills & get you safely down the road. Check out http://www.pugetsoundsafety.com They have good instructors and classes all over.  I know they do the classes on JBLM ... not sure about for you squids.

Well JB when you are ready to head south let me know...we'll meet up somewhere and burn a couple tanks.

One pooppy thing about the Sport is that peanut tank. But with us both being 'Nuts it will be perfect :D

Trying to ride with a group can be a PITA with bigger bikes ... they can roll 250 or more miles and I've got to stop every 115 miles for fuel. I offer to not stop so often ... as long as they are willing to push  :D

I never got over 100 miles on my 1200 when I had it. Though, I was ripping 80 MPH everywhere, I can't ride 65.
