Ah, man, don't scare him off the job yet. I haven't done one of the AAM axles yet, but I'm guessing they're similar to my Dana, I know they don't have the CAD, but the D-side seal on the Dana is behind the dif carrier. I did seals in my Dana, books and everything say you need a spreader to remove the carrier, but you really don't. As long as you aren't replacing carrier bearings and such there isn't any need to worry about the setup stuff, just mark the bearing caps and don't get them mixed up so that everything goes back just the way it came out. Carrier just prys out with a little bitty pry bar, then goes back in with a couple whacks from a soft dead blow. For installing the seals just go slow and get them seated nice and even. Since you're in there so far might want to go ahead and do the axle u-joints, too. It was only $15 or so each for the U-joints and only added 30 or 45min. to the total job anyway. Other advice, if your front end hasn't been apart before a couple days before you want to do the work start soaking all the bolts up there down with a good penetrating oil like PB Blaster.
