ATDT's P-Pump Build
« on: August 25, 2011, 05:47:00 pm »
I've been collecting parts since about January.  About 2.5 weeks ago I started the dead pedal routine and then I went out and started my truck one day and it wouldn't rev over 2k and started blowing white smoke and missing.  After that, I decided it was time.

Here is my truck.

I got the front end all tore apart and ready to pull the front cover after a few misc other pieces come off.

Got it all tore apart to find out that the timing case bolts are a T40 Torx and not 10mm bolts like on a 12v.

I went out on a limb and decided to try and use small 4" zip ties to hold the tappets up to get the cam out..................and then when I was putting my head studs in, I accidentally tapped a push-rod with my ratchet and knocked the tappet and push-rod into the pan.  :banghead::banghead::banghead:

Needless to say, I decided the engine needed a paint job, so, I decided to pull the engine out.  I also can install my clutch while the engine is out.

Got the oil pan off and prepped the block for the new pan gasket.

Cleaned the front of the block and installed the timing case.

Well I got new 24V tappets yesterday and installed them this morning.  Funny thing, I ordered 12 tappets and I opened 1 of the boxes and it had 7 in it.  So, I ended up with a spare lol.  I also threw the cam in it.

Got a fuel pump block off plate so I could remove the lift pump bracket.

Got the valve Spring's installed.

Injectors, Pushrods, and Rockers are all installed!

Next step is to knock the filters outta the cross tubes, install valve cover breather, clean the block and paint it.

Lol.  Yea it is.  If I wouldn't have dropped those tappets, I wouldn't have pulled it out.  Thanks!

Yeah, work on it once out of the truck and you won't ever want to do it other wise.

I'll take 2 hours pulling the motor just for the convenience of having it on the stand and being able to walk around it.
