Beans Diesel Fuel Sump Install
« on: February 25, 2012, 02:42:16 am »
Got my fuel sump from Beans Diesel Performance.  This is a no tank drop style sump.

Step 1:  locate the lowest part of the fuel tank clean with brake kleen or any cleaning agent.

Step 2:  Drain fuel tank.  I pulled my recirculation line off my airdog and pump the fuel out into a suitable container.

Step 3:  Position gasket on bottom of tank and mark inside diameter and studs holes with paint pen or marker.

Step 4:  Drill the rear most stud hole first and have a drain ready because there will be more fuel that will drain out.  I used a 9/32" drill bit for the holes.  Once the rest of the fuel drains out, drill the remaining holes and check for hole alignment.

Step 5:  The inside diameter of the gasket and sump is 2 3/4".  I used a 2 1/2" hole saw and centered it inside of the inner mounting ring and cut the hole out.  See above picture for mounting rings.

Step 6:  Clean any flashing out of mounting stud holes and fuel sump hole in tank.  Then, install mounting rings into tank.

Step 7:  Clean any fuel off of sealing surface off tank.  I used a fuel tolerable RTV sealant on the gasket.  Apply a bead of RTV on the gasket and around mounting stud holes on both sides of gasket.

Step 8:  Install sump onto tank, then nylon washers, and mounting stud nuts.  Go around the sump and tighten mounting stud nuts.  There isn't a torque spec so I just went snug and went around again until all felt tight.  Smear any excess RTV around the edge of the sump.

Step 9:  Install suction line onto fuel sump.

Step 10:  Let RTV setup some before putting any fuel into tank. Once RTV sets up, put about 5 gallons or so back into tank and check for leaks.

From your pics it looks like you didn't have to drop the tank.
Or has the tank come out so many times now that its a non-issue?
You can't fix stupid

This is a no tank drop sump.  The mounting ring is cut in half and they fit up through the hole.

What is the 1/4 tank issue?

With a draw straw at a 1/4 tank, if you hit the brakes hard the fuel will slosh and you will get an air pocket and your fuel pressure will drop and then rebound once fuel sloshes back.
