What kind of gaskets did you use with the headers?

That really sucks, only 3 years old. Those shorties had to have been expensive.

Remflex gaskets.  They came highly recommended which is why i went with them.  They did work well, but when i pulled the header off they broke in about 6-7 pieced per side.

I got a deal on the headers originally, but yes still expensive, plus stage 8 bolts $.

I suppose you don't want to put them headers back on do you? I checked out that company, and they only have a 6 month guarantee on the gaskets.

Try Taylor Cable, they are multilayered aluminum gaskets.

I appreciate the link .  I have the headers sitting on the work bench...   but at this point don't have plans to ever put them back on.  I'm going to blast them eventually to verify their condition (look for pin holes or cracks), and then put some VHT on them to protect them for the time being.  Like I said it looks like the gasket failed, but want to make sure.  I'll see if I can recoup a couple $ by posting them on craigslist... or if the guy that just posted about headers still wants some, i'll give him a good deal.  For me they were something to do while in college when I didn't have to rely on the truck.  It could sit for as long as needed....  but now that I rely on the truck daily for work, its a whole different ball game.  I really do think the headers helped a tad with power... but not enough to be worth the hassle imho.

Here is what they are

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/PSM-72C1317/

But... if I blast them and paint them...  Then they are no better than these...

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/PSM-70-1317/

Being used, i'd want a good bit less than that....   If anyone wants to mess around with these, shoot me an offer.

I hate to see you go back to stock. I would give it another shot.

I hear ya, I hate to go backwards too...  but, it had to happen.  Need reliability, with cost in mind.  My temp job is finishing up soon unless I get extended for the 3rd time, so it will be a few weeks before the next temp gig starts up.  Next projected temp project will be a 1.5hr commute one way.  On the up side... at least it is relevant work experience I need on my resume :)

You need a cheap fuel sipper for that. With the way fuel prices are going right now, my truck is likely going to sit until prices come down.

I certainly do.  I've occasionally looked for the past year, but haven't been real serious about doing it.  I'll have to sell the truck to make it happen (can't keep both), and i'm not to eager to sell the truck to be honest.  There is nothing overly special about the truck in itself (would rather have a 2500 6spd hemi), but the attachment comes from the 5+ years of ownership and doing ALL the work except for two things off the top of my head....  (Trans, and Tint).  Trans because I can't, Tint because I am a perfectionist... although I did do the brow myself.  When I finally find a full time perm job, I probably will swap out for a more economical car.  Time will tell.

To the best of my knowledge, the Hemi was never backed by a manual transmission in the Ram.

They are harder to find, but they are out there.  They stopped in 08 afaik.  I'm picky so i'd have to have an 06-08 because I like that interior better.  Theres one with no bed on ebay just to show you one.  It is by no means the cream of the crop, but here is one.  http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/WOW-Hemi-4x4-6Sp-Manual-Trans-Ready-Work-Any-Body-You-Want-AVE-/110838431254?pt=US_Cars_Trucks&hash=item19ce7c3e16

Here is an 08

and an 06

http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.jsp?ct=p&car_id=317209938&dealer_id=67058285&car_year=2006&systime=&doors=&model=RAM25002WD&search_lang=en&start_year=2006&keywordsfyc=&keywordsrep=&highlightFirstMakeModel=&search_type=both&distance=0&min_price=&rdm=1331344805855&drive=4+wheel+drive&marketZipError=false&advanced=y&fuel=&keywords_display=&sownerid=583033&lastBeginningStartYear=1981&end_year=2008&showZipError=n&make2=&certified=&engine=8+Cylinder&dma=PHILADELPHIA_SO&page_location=findacar%3A%3Aispsearchform&body_code=0&isFlashPlugin=true&transmission=Manual&default_sort=priceASC&max_mileage=&color=&address=11111&sort_type=priceASC&max_price=&make=DODGE&seller_type=b&num_records=25&cardist=1165&standard=false

If I could find a power wagon 6spd...  i'd rock it in a heart beat.
