boost fooler question
« on: April 13, 2012, 06:32:45 am »
been thinking here and there for almost a year about buying a boost fooler...

whats you guys' opinion......

are they worth the $65?

which would you run if you were purchasing one, BD or Quadzillas?

who has one and which brand do you have? have you had problems out of it? did your truck start throwing codes after plugging it in?

thanks

Will, I run the BD and haven't had a bit of trouble out of it. Have to say that it works fine.

"fools" the ecm to allow the turbo to boost "5-8psi" more without throwing codes

Do any of the tuners, such as a Smarty Jr. do the same thing?

to the best of My knowledge, no...

when adding a tuner that increases the fuel or timing thats where the boost fooler comes into play....

adding a few lbs of boost to reduce egts...

thats what ive gotten from reading the description of one anyway... haha

Pick one of the "foolers" out and send to me. I can test and let you know.  ;)

You need to be careful about adding more boost until you have some head studs installed.

EFI can't fool it, but you can make more hp and torque with what you have.
You can't fix stupid

Most of the tuners already do boost fooling.

If you're on a stock turbo though, anything over 33 - 35 psi is a waste. All it is hot air because you're getting outside the efficient range of the compressor map.

I have the BD. well worth getting. I'm running 33psi on the stock turbo. I took the fooler off the other day and the truck would defuel at 28psi huge differance it felt like it would fall on its face with anything over half throttle.

I have the Quadzilla one, no codes or issues from it, like said before it allows you to make more boost in a nutshell and will put you outside of the stock turbos efficiency map. I can't remember if I did it after springs studs and injectors or after the turbo upgrade... pretty sure it was after the turbo though because I could run I little more pressure before the turbo fell on its face.... but all I can really tell you is that Rich told me I should pry get it lol so I did. It was a pretty resonable price though and just plugged right in.
