ABS and brake light on no codes
« on: April 27, 2012, 03:50:29 am »
So I got an ABS light on and a brake light on. the brakes seem to act fine. Had Autozone check for codes they did come up with any. Speedo works so idk if its the diff sensor. Kind of need to know whats up have a road trip this weekend.
Autozone guy said some vehicles have brake pad wear sensors and that could be it? Thanks

On the top front side of the rear diff, is there a sensor plug?  The rear abs sensor can be replaced.  I'd check that first.
You can't fix stupid

That was happening to me when one of my front hubs was going... i would stop sometimes and the lights would come down or especially if i went trough a puddle. turn the key off and they would go out for a lil bit. Replaced the two front hubs and away they went never seen them after.

Ok, so my brother inlaw said it just blew a ABS sensor but then it blew agian I checked and cleaned the sensor seemed fine. anything else to look at?
Btw it seems just my right rear is locking up. but if I unplugged  the abs fuse brakes feel soft and the abs doesn't seem to work.
Any ideas. Oh yeah and I checked the sensor on the bench.

Sorry should update I had the front brakes done. In the process they replaced one of the hubs.
However, I still seem to get some shuttering under braking. and have abs lights.

there are a few things on the ABS system that can cause this.

the rear speed sensor

the sensor in the hub. one on each side

the speed sensor on the trans

and the "brain" of the ABS going bad.

i did a DIY on the rear speed sensor, it's the same for the 8.25 and 9.25... just slightly different housing.

i also have the ABS and parking brake light on... so far i've done the hubs and rear speed sensor. As the brakes still work fine... i'm moving through them slowly lol

I would get the code checked by someone that knows what they're doing. I don't know that the code reader at a parts store will talk to the ABS module. I would take it to a shop or the dealer to at least get the right code pulled so you're not shooting in the dark and have an idea as where to start.

Maybe if you have a buddy that has a scanner...

Autozone and places like that only have generic OBD2 readers... they won't read that system
