Ever hear of brake pads falling off?
« on: August 30, 2012, 01:38:17 am »
Well after some quick investigating on my way home from work today, i found out that my rear passenger brake pad came apart today while pulling my trailer back to the yard.

What the hells that about?! Ive never heard of such thing!

All new brake pads and rotors all the way around as of a few months ago!

The rotor looks to be all messed up, too.

I have plans to get in there and fix it tomorrow in the morning so i can keep working, ill let ya know if i find anything crazy!

Thankfully it wasn't my transmission... it was the very first thing that came to mind when i head the crazy noises that it was making.

Anytime the pads get changed, you should be turning the rotors......if they haven't been ground all to hell, them they become scrap yard weight.

A quick check with the mic will tell you if they're even able to be turned.

I may ask the parts store if they'll turn it, but from the looks of it, its probably not turnable.

I drove a few miles home with a loaded trailer on these brakes- ended up having to use the trailer brakes manually to create safety in my head. ;D

Its only one side, too. The outer pad stayed on, it was just the inner.

And Bat... who turns rotors?! This guy does!! lol

As far as the pads, i dunno. I was gonna check tomorrow to see what brand it was so i know not to buy them again!

Well.... i guess i was wrong about the pad "falling" off- it looks to of "worn" off!

No sign or anything!

Whats weird is that i just put new pads and rotors on in early spring.

Any ideas on what made the back wear way faster than the fronts?!

I think that's your trucks way of saying "F OFF, I'm tired."

Haha! My thoughts exactly!

If shes listening right now... i have plans to get get waxed and detailed come November.

She's just gotta hang in there...

It looks like that caliper might be hanging up on you.  That rotor is probably toast too.  Is it a scratch or is the rotor cracked at the top?
You can't fix stupid

Jim beat me to it. That caliper was definitely hung up. Did you do the install or did you pay someone?

I installed it and no, that was just a scratch that you see.

The calipers on both sides were fine, i just showed this pad.

They all were close to this one, this one was just the worse one out of all of them.

And yes, rotor was toast!

You must have some sort of ABS module issue to be going through brakes this fast.

If you haven't done so already, after you get the brakes replaced AGAIN, set the truck on jack stands and get the wheels up to speed. Apply the brakes, then release.

I had to put the brakes on this morning.

What would putting it up in the air and rolling the wheels do? Would it show me which is braking first?

Speaking of going through pads fast... i have the same problem with tires, too! I have already put atleast 4 new tires on my dump trailer this year do to unknown shit! Good thing i carry spares for EVERYTHING, even wheel barrels. I woke up this morning to fix my brakes and after going outside to take my trailer off so i can get in the driveway with my truck, i found a flat trailer tire that magically happened over night while sitting in the street. Even bought an enclosed trailer a while back and blew a brand new tire the very first morning with it on the way to the job.
