Sounds like cards in a spoke?!?!
« on: November 25, 2012, 10:11:15 am »
Hello, I have a "NEW" noise under my truck and could use some help. I cant figure it out because it only does it under accelleration. When I let off the gas completely it goes away. I had the rear driveshaft and Ujoints replaced about a year ago, but this sounds like it may be in the rear or maybe tranny??? It sounds like when we were kids and put cards in the spokes of our bikes... Not a loud noise, but it varies with speed so its not just a rattle. Any help on where to look? I checked the rear diff fluid and it is full and clear. Nothing apparent on the driveshaft or wheels.

Well, I pulled the rear diff cover off and found 3 large pieces of the Pinion Gear sitting in the bottom...  :-(  Gotta look at other options now.

WOW! That sucks. What kind of axle is it? Gonna rebuild it or do a salvage yard swap?

I've been looking at Craigslist and found a few around $250-$300. Its a Chrysler 9.25 rear and Dana 44 Front. Unfortunately I need to do them both. The front went a few years back and I've been putting it off since the economy took a dump. Its not really cheaper or faster to repair them so I'm probably gonna do a swap on both if I can find a matching set with fairly low miles.
