Shocks-
« on: December 11, 2012, 04:19:50 pm »
Somebody direct me to the right post please...
If I remember right, the front shocks can be replaced by removing the inner fender liner, top shock nut, shock tower bottom bolt and lift the shock out from the top.
Am I right or do I have to remove the batteries?

Somebody argued this awhile ago and I can't find the post.

You're right.
You don't have to take the inner fenders out. You can use a long extension to get at the towers and top shock nut from the top. The tower nuts are studs welded to a ring. They won't spin on you.

One side is a little tighter to get the shock out than the other and may not -look- like there's going to be room, but there is.  You shouldn't have any issues.

What brand are you installing? Since I'm rolling close to 91k on the stockers I'm thinking its probably time to replace them. I'm gonna wait until it gets a little colder though.  :banging:

2005 QC Dually 2wd CTD 6-spd. SRT-6, AEM Brute Force intake, Smarty Sr., D.O.F. shift knob, 5" to dual side exit 4" exhaust, Quad Scout, road kill kat, 2011 Coachmen North Ridge fifth wheel

I MAY BE OLD, BUT I GOT TO SEE ALL THE GOOD BANDS.....

Bilsein 5100's all around.
also putting airbags on the back.
I have 120000 miles on it. It was kinda weird what happened.  I drive the same roads everyday to the shop, about a month ago the ride changed.  Started feeling every bump and hole.  1 day decent ride, the next it was like riding a bike on washboard roads.
Its either my worn out self or the truck needs some new parts and pieces.

Done and Done

One of my front shock was toast, vavle in it must have cracked because you could move it like an accordian.

Anyhow, the front shock were a hell of alot easier than the back.  Both bottom mounts at the back were  :quote: tight  :quote:.  Ended up with a little heat, big hammer and a 4' pipe on the ratchet.

Air bags are in as well, plumbed it back to the license plate mounts

Yeah, the back ones can be a pain once in a while.....especially if, when you install a set of ladder bars, you don't notice that the bolt comes out toward the bracket. And it's positioned in just such a way that you can't get anything in there to cut it. Yeah, that's joy.
