Mitch unfortunately that isn't a standard we can set for; it varies. If you would like additional assistance without having to get into all the techno gizzmo stuff go ahead and email the image file directly to one of the admins. When we have the actual file we can review the size & other parameters. It will also give us something more to look at the log files specifically for. Being that you were doing the upload directly from your phone there very well could have been a service interruption that prevented the upload and it has nothing to do with the image itself.
For others:
Please when reporting technical issues to us Admins help us help you by providing the most detailed information possible. It is always helpful to have the following types of information:
-Browser information - is it IE, Fire Fox, Chrome, etc and what version
-connection method - PC, tablet, phone, etc
-if you're uploading something tell us about what you're uploading - size, file type, etc
-When the problem happened; I know it's silly but please include your time zone - DOF membership crosses 6 times zones, we admins cross 4 & the server is on a different time zone. It's small but it really does help
-What you were doing that failed
-What you expected to happen
-What messages were recieved
We have about a dozen different log files we can look through at any given point and finding key pieces of information is tough. We are good but not always. Depending on the action that failed for you it might not even be something that would log and then we have to try to re-create it to find the issue.
We do our absolute best to ensure that DOF is the best experience it can be for you. We use an open source application so we can plug in additional items or remove things that cause issue. We don't code it 100% ourselves but we can tweak and reset a lot of the back end stuff to make it better.
If we find that this chunk of software doesn't meet the needs of DOF .. guess what... we'll go find something that works better. But we need to know what isn't working and be able to find out what needs to change.
Really we don't try to ignore issues or be difficult. It is just really hard for us to know what to fix when we can't nail down the issue. In the past our image uploads have been greatly affected by size requirements; but what is set right now seems to be a completely logical size requirement & we have plenty of space on the server. I can pop off the top of the size requirement with my camera with no problems I know my images are to large to publish directly. But images are unique to the device they are taken on and many many variables are included in the size when created. Yes it is a drag to go dig for silly pieces of information you'd never really think about looking at; of course we know it is. All three of us do this IT support thing in one form or another for a living; we ask the same questions every day of our professional users also.
