new member hello guys
« on: October 25, 2013, 05:42:55 pm »
OK. This may be lengthy so bare w/ me please.
This all started w/my 03 Cummins 4x4 when I took a 500 mile trip.
I was almost home when I stopped for fuel,I noticed my truck dripping
From the water pump.and heard a clacking noise comming from
The front. The bolts had backed out of the water pump and I thought
Since the pump was cockeyed,it was hitting something. Retighten the pump.still the noise.
Put a new pump antifreeze. Still clacking. I checked the codes
Got the overheat sensor code. I read alot about injector clacking. Injection
Pump gear lash.I turned the gear 60* still clacking. My oil pressure is 10
Psi at idle 40 to 50psi @2500 rpm.runs at the 200 degree temp.
I had the valve cover off some of the rockers are wiggle Abit but don't seem too
Loose. To me anyways. The truck is stock w/ 188000. When I rev the
Motor the clacking noise don't keep up w/ the rpms.
No power lose, fuel mileage is fine.no hard starts.I'm at my wits end.
When I listen closely I can hear the engine behind the clacking noise
Its sounds good. I touch the first injector line and it vibrates. Not the others
Though. I've always used the silver bottle centane boost.I've tried the centane
Boost stuff and seafoam in the fuel filter. Nothing.
I don't have the money to change parts but I'm inclined Mechanicly.
Any ideas or comments welcome.

I'd try adjusting the valves, you might have a loose rocker.  And at your mileage your due anyway, plus its free.

1970 Chevelle 496 Single 101mm Turbo . . . Stock door panels and rear seat. (It was easier to say what is stock than list all the mods.)
2004 Duramax Heavy Dooty, Edge CTS, S&B intake, MPRP exhaust

1965 Corvette Stingray (Dad's car)
1970 Corvette Convertible (Mom's car)
1931 Sedan Delivery (Grandfather's, bought new)

Why is it free? If I do it myself?
