Wiring Help
« on: June 24, 2015, 01:09:39 pm »
Hi folks. I'm new here and hope there is a wiring expert around to help out. I have owned MANY Ford vehicles in the past but since Ford can't provide me with such a great all round vehicle as my 2013 Dodge Grand Caravan, here I am.
As an old guy I remember the good old days when vehicle wiring was fairly straight forward and easy to trace. Today's vehicles are a total nightmare with do-it-all power modules, relays and more wiring bundles than I've ever seen before!!
What I want to do is hook up a remote wireless keypad like all my recent Ford vehicles have had. These are available online and the instructions do not deal with specific vehicle wiring. The unit wiring is pretty simple but finding the RIGHT wires in the vehicle to tap into is a major pain. Bundles of wire as big as my forearm make tracing a real dilemma!
I suppose I could approach the dealer to check on installation but as a Street Rodder and car builder in the past I'd like to do it myself. So if there is anyone that can help with identifying the driver door lock/unlock wiring and it's location I would be very grateful. I prefer not to have to remove the door panel if at all possible. Thanks in advance.

Mike

Well your best bet if at all possible it to try and find a Service Manual for your model Caravan. Ive had one for my 2006 Ram 2500 and its a must have. There will be so much detail on doning ANYTHING to the vehicle would be able to figure it out. Now, cant tell you where you can find one of those (someone else have an idea?

Dodge changed how they publish the service manuals in 2007 (I think) that made it much harder to get online. The Caravan is no longer included in the Body Builder group either (since the release of the Ram Van in '11) so the wiring diagrams aren't there either.

The switches may come up out of the door panel without removing the panel itself. You should be able to get eyes on the wires one you pop the switches up.
