Been keeping an eye on how big of a fine NHTSA was gonna stick them with... Didn't expect this though:

Quote
Models included in the buy-back offer are certain Ram 1500s from 2009 to 2012; the Ram 1500 Mega Cab 4 by 4 from 2008; and the Ram 2500 4 by 4, 3500 4 by 4, 4500 4 by 4, and 5500 4 by 4, all from 2008 through 2012. Also part of the offer are 2009 Chrysler Aspen and Dodge Durango SUVs and the Dodge Dakota pickup from 2009 through 2011.

Possibly, but you were probably one of the 80% or so that would have gotten the recalls done.  I know I had my recalls done.

This isn't great for Chrysler, but the advantage chrysler has always had was the loyalty of their following.  The guys who have to have, or sell their trucks back, will probably be buying new ones.  I'm guessing Chrysler is going to find out that a number of the trucks aren't on the road for other reasons and they don't know about it.

To me, the kick in the pants is the Jeeps.  Most of those are still out there.  Some will have been modified to the point where that particular OEM equipment isn't on them anymore.

In all honesty, I'd be more worried about the electronic hacking through the UConnect system than this... Now THAT's and interesting discussion (and brings up SOOOO many questions)

I've got 2 active recalls on the Dak - pinion nut: they need to check ... run and check again - but there are no parts so it's kinda a silly waste of both our time to go do it. The air bag grenade one there are no parts for.  So alas I keep waiting I guess. I stay on them when there are parts to do it.

Probably not a good time to put my 06' dually up for sale, but it's being listed soon.

Actually, it might end up good.  If a bunch of 08-12 and such are coming off the road, and guys want the pre-DPF trucks, yours would actually be more valuable.

I don't know, to me anyway I find it hard to believe that Chrysler will actually buy back thousands and thousands of vehicles. The Ford 6.0 powerstroke 5-spd auto trans issues were a lot more serious and Ford bought back relatively few trucks. I'm gonna guess that since Chrysler gets to repair and resale the vehicles, I'm gonna say that the only ones that will get bought back (and no, not for NADA price) are ones that will be traded in anyway or the repairs are not available in a timely matter. But I bet they will have the option in the agreement to at least attempt a fix before a buyback.

If anyone remembers back a few years (okay quite a few years) GM had the same type of issues with there '73 thru '87 (I think them were the years) trucks with the fuel tanks mounted on the outside of the frame. A side impact would cause the truck to explode. Same deal, GM was supposed to buy back the trucks, or repair them. By the time the dust settled, the only thing done was that everyone who currently owned one of the affected trucks got a $1000 owner loyalty check to be applied to the purchase of a new GM vehicle.

2005 QC Dually 2wd CTD 6-spd. SRT-6, AEM Brute Force intake, Smarty Sr., D.O.F. shift knob, 5" to dual side exit 4" exhaust, Quad Scout, road kill kat, 2011 Coachmen North Ridge fifth wheel

I MAY BE OLD, BUT I GOT TO SEE ALL THE GOOD BANDS.....
