All in one tuner
« on: October 06, 2015, 06:50:00 am »
I have an '07 5.9 with the Banks filter and scoop and straight 4" exhaust with 5" stacks. She is a hand shaker with reverse at bottom left, and 3.73 rear end. I'm thinking about going ahead and getting a tuner that has all of the gauges built in instead of getting a whole bunch of gauges ( even though the gauges look awesome). My eventual goal is 500 at the rear wheels. I know I can't pour power to her without making other mods first but I would like to go ahead and get the tuner with gauges to see the changes. And from what I have heard I can use the fuel mileage and towing settings with stock equipment.

Any input???

Rooster is going with the Edge Insight CTS 2  for consolidated gauges. He just got an 06 Mega cab.  I went "old school" with Isspro Performax gauges on mine.

Isn't the insight just a monitoring system? i figure if I'm going to have something hooked up I might as well get something that has tuning capabilities.

I have the Edge Evolution CTS2 in my '06 and really like it so far. The screen on it is killer and it has a ton of options. I mostly run it on the "Tow" setting since I tow on most weekends. Also with the new ones you can now adjust the torque management and timing like you can with a Smarty. Another benefit of the monitor instead of gauges is that you can check and clear codes with it.

The Evolution is a download tuner. If you want to change tunes it takes several minutes. The Attitude can change tunes on the fly by the push of a button and they say makes more power. The downside to the Attitude (in my opinion) is that it taps into several sensors/connectors under the hood. In my experience that opens the door for several problems in the future. Frequently we find these types of tuners to cause issues in the shop (when they get older). That was the reason I went with and recommend downloader style tuners.

Ok. So I need to be looking for non shift on the fly tuners is what it sounds like. Seems like most have gone that route just from looking around anyway. What programs can you typically run on stock equipment without abusing it?

Does the Evolution /Insight monitor EGT's through the OBD2 port or do you have to run another sensor?

you'll have to add a sensor to read EGT's. Our truck dont have the built in.

I ran a Smarty Jr for several years. Max output was 100hp...was told that was the max for stock setup.
