95 ram 1500 2wd tranny shift problems
« on: January 01, 2016, 05:12:36 pm »
My 1995 ram 1500 slt laramie 2wd is slow to shift. Slow to engage into reverse, but does go in.  3rd gear is also slow to engagr at Anything less then 1/2 throttle. If I lay off of throttle and theb get back into it, it usually shifts no problem. Anyone have an ideas of where to start my trouble shooting?

When's the last time you had service performed on it?  Fluids and such?

Roughly 2 months, less then 500 miles. Tranny gasket was leaking so i dropped pan and put new filter and fluid. Old fluid didnt seemed burned. Worked better for about a week. Then back to its old ways

no metal in the pan when you dropped it I assume? and I'm assuming you have checked all your connections? wires, cables, etc...  fluid is topped off?

There was a little metal on magnet in pan. But nothing startling.  Have checked wires and connections

Sounds like the pump is not building proper pressure.

The transmission pump. It is operated from the torque converter and is located in the front cover of the trans. You can diagnose the pump by installing a pressure gage inline with the cooler lines. This way you can see if you are building proper pressure.

Seeing as your truck is a '95 a trans rebuild may be the best option as if it is the pump the trans will have to come out.
