Haven't quite decided what I'm gonna do. I know it sounds bad, but I started the teardown about 5 (yes 5) years ago when the carb took a dump. I have run stock bars, apes, and drag bars and think I'll go back to apes as I liked them the best. Maybe not as tall as before. I had to extend a 48" wiring harness 6 inches to hook up the switches. Also want to switch to a springer fork and hand shift. So, looks like a long broke winter. ;D

Have you ever ridden either a Springer or a hand shift bike?

Nope, haven't used a hand shift, and haven't rode a springer. The springer shouldn't be much different, but don't know if I got the coordination for a hand shift until I try it. Speed shifting should be fun! The first bike I ever rode was my 883. First ride ever was when I picked it up from the dealer and went once around the parking lot, thru on a helmet and rode 45 miles home! Kinda like on the job training. I like that '89 you got back in the corner, anything special done to it? Any experience with a hotter cam? Would like to see more of it if you don't mind. The apes look like what I had except I had 3" wide glide risers under the bars. Like them risers because they were straight, as opposed to the softail risers that bent back 1". Kinda made it hard to reach the grips going around the corner!

The springer front end tends to be a bit more bouncy ( I think ), and hand shifting can be a bit of a challenge, especially with a foot clutch. DEFINATELY not the scoot I'd want to try and ride home from a bar.

:43:

I'll roll the 89 out and take some pics as soon as I can. It's a bar hopper, not a distance runner.
