Bumper Light - DIY

Here is the parts list:
2ea. #4411 lights from Napa (auto quest also uses the same part numbers) - the lights in my pictures are actually from a Semi service place locally cause we broke one of the 4411 lights on install.
2 4 inch rubber light grommets
1 relay, one three position switch
2 wire splices, 8 ring style crimp connectors (1/4 inch hole)
8 insulated female spade connectors
a roll of red wire and a roll of black wire.

Here is a wiring diagram on how to tie into the reverse lights w/ a 3 way switch



Measure for location on the bumper (and then remeasure...drink a beer and measure a 3rd time)
Once marked using a 4" 1/4" whole saw on a STRONG drill with plenty of cutting lubricate cut the bumper


Insert rubber grommet and light


Run power wire from light to fuse panel. I used red for obvious reasons and added the extra insurance of a wire-loom to protect the wire.


each light is independently grounded to frame


Mount switch in convent location


We choice not to run our lights on a 3-way switch but with a simple on / off. Grounded switch to dash and ran hot to battery

Why would you need a 3 way switch? Is that so they'd automaticaly go on when you put the truck into reverse?

Do you have a part number for the relay?

The 3-way is only if you want to have the ability to have the lights come on when Reverse is selected.

Frog, can you get me some measurements as to where you started the center bit for the hole saw.

Know how the bumper curves at the edges?  I drew a straight line from the top to the bottom before the curve and same on the other side where the license plate is.  Finding straight spots there.

Then just criss-crossed to find center.

Kind of hard to explain.

Ummm ...yea I kind of know what you mean but not really following 'ya. How about just a close up pic of one light and another of the whole bumper.

I've also been meaning to ask you, where did you get your mudflaps and what are they attached to?

Um, thanks. Thats what I did. But I just tapped into the reverse light on the hitch plug for the hot, and ran the hot up to a switch in the cab. That way I don't need a 3 way switch. But I cannot turn them on without it being in reverse.

Hey Frog
I'm gonna be gettin a new rear bumper soon, and i still wanna do this mod. Could you please pick out the grommet that you used? All of these say that you need a 4 1/2" hole
