Nice truck! As for the weight ratings, I may be wrong (it has happened once....hehehe), but I believe that the gross combined weight rating - GCWR is the same for both single and dual wheel trucks. The difference is in the gross vehicle weight rating - GVWR - which should be 9900lbs for the single and 11,500 for the dual wheel. Total truck and trailer weight is the same, but the dually can put more in the box. To double check, look at the payload rating for each.

When I was shopping in 2005 and 2006 (I bought one of each) I determined from Dodge literature that the axles, springs, and brakes were the same DRW vs SRW so they have the same GVW, but since the Duallie weighed more empty due to the fender flares and exra tires and wheels, it actually had a lower payload than the SRW.  It didn't make sense to me but thats the way it was

If you want to spend some time and really look into the differences between a single and dual configuration go to http://www.dodge.com/bodybuilder/

On there are all the exploded diagrams and charts you could ever dream of.

After this next deployment. Once I get over there, my truck payments are gonna be $1,500 a month. That will pay it off in 10 months. After that, I am gonna get the DPF delete, camper shell, the Edge programmer, Pocket flares, and maybe the Fab Tec 4.5 inch lift. All that stuff will go on as soon I get back.

not to confuse the issue too much, but the only information I can add is the max capacity of the tires is greater with DRW vs SRW

Using my Michelin LTX Load Range E as an example:

SRW - 3042 pounds each x 2 tires = 6084 max tire capacity on the rear (this includes truck and bed/hitch load)
DRW - 2778 pounds each x 4 tires = 11112 max tire capacity on the rear  NOTE!!! this doesn't mean you can exceed the load limits on the door jamb

Hope this helps

A SRW 3500 does not have the same rear spring pack as a DRW 3500.  Don't let anyone tell you the only little difference is 2 more tires on the rear.  Those 2 tires in the rear make the DRW A SOLID BRICK WHEN YOU ARE TOWING  large.  If you have a SRW with 19.5s that is much better.  You can't get a 17 with enough towing capacity to match a DRW.  I added 19.5s on my 3500 DRW and there is still much better stability. :taz:

It only takes one bad situation to prove it to you. :argh:

I have a 2006 DWR. The drivers door sticker indicates the GVWR as 4763 KG (10,500)

The Front 2359KG (5200)

The Rear 4242KG (9350)

As stated before, the real difference is in the stability. There is much less sway when towing extreme weight.

The add to the integrity, I upgraded to Goodyear 265/70R/19.5's that are "G" rated.

I strongly considered a MegaMonster DRW before we purchased the QC.  The Mega will do anything that my QC will do.  BUT for legal reasons we chose not to go with the Mega because of the low GVW.  I see a lot of Megas towing real heavy with goose necks and 5ers.  Also knowing they are way over on the posted GVW.  And just suppose of a serious accident that kills folks in the other vehicle you better believe the shart bottom sucker lawyers will make that an issue.

With my 5'ver, technically I was over the limit with either model I chose.

I would have had to gone with one of the mini semi rigs to stay totally legal.

Back in June we made a 6k trip out thru the rockies.  While in Colorado we stayed with some frinds for a couple of days.  While there we loaded the entire bed around the hitch with a ton of red colorado rock.  We grossed 26,400#s.  With the 19.5s the truck was a dream.  My wife drove for several hundred miles thru Tx. at 65-70mph.  She was amazed at the stability.  I am sure you would get the same results with an MM.  I personally think the MM would be a bumper towers dream truck.  You would have the GCVW ability and rear end stability.
