Welcome to the Charger
« on: July 01, 2008, 06:34:31 pm »

Powertrains and Performance

The 2008 Dodge Charger has three primary engine options and a choice of rear-wheel- or all-wheel-drive versions. The base 2.7-liter V6 produces 178 horsepower and 190 pound-feet of torque and drives through a four-speed automatic transmission. The larger optional 3.5-liter V6 is good for 250 horses and 250 lb-ft of torque. The R/T's 5.7-liter V8 delivers 340 hp and 390 lb-ft of torque. Both the larger V6 and the V8 are backed by a five-speed automatic transmission with Auto Stick. The high-performance rear-drive-only SRT8 features an even stouter 6.1-liter V8 that cranks out 425 horses and 425 lb-ft of torque, and propels the car from zero to 60 mph in the low 5-second range. It drives through a five-speed automatic transmission with a specially calibrated Auto Stick automanual. EPA-estimated fuel economy ranges from 18 mpg city and 26 mpg highway for the 2.7-liter V6 to 13/18 mpg for the SRT8.

This is a unique charger that I saw on a recent trip to Washington, DC.

I'd REALLY hate to see this guy following me.

Thats so stupid though, they get the same mpg as my truck. Some higher up prolly watched the movie street kings and got turned on to em.
There's a few cities in fla and elsewhere that are using a prius for regular city patrols.

Yeeeeeaaaahh, but THAT will make you think twice about running from it.

I'd be too embarassed to stop for a PRIUS.

I'd probably run until they AT LEAST brought a real cruiser.

the chargers here in SA are black with police written in another shade of black. Bastards LOL.

Yeah I understand the mentality of not stopping for a prius. I blew by a cop SUV in fla, saw him turn his lights on but I kept going and exited at the next exit. Figured by the time he turned around and even got up to the speed limit I'd be long gone.

Tom and I saw one of these on display down at the Plunge last weekend.

They use all kinds of different vehicles here in Maryland (mustangs, crowns, impalla's, camaro's, pickups, etc).  I even saw one driving a minivan police cruiser one day.  I wouldn't have ever known it was a police car if it weren't for the fact they had somebody pulled over and the lights were flashing.

Don't forget that we also have Harley's patroling now too.  Had one shoot by me yesterday on the way home.  Same drab green and brown paint job as the cruisers.  That is one thing I definently wouldn't try to run from.

I know in Vegas, if the cops confiscate a car, they can use it on patrols.  I know I saw at least 2 Ferrari and 3 Lambo cruisers out there last time.  Now that would be a great perk of the job if every police force did that.

 :cents:

While I think it's cool for the police to drive those expensive cars, I don't see how it's smart cost wise to the taxpayers to maintain them. I 'd rather see them sell the cars and use the money to buy more cost effective cars.

Here, they confiscate, and use the ones that are reasonable

Out on 95 patrolling traffic are:

F150 - blacked out windows, hard top tonneau, 20's, and lights
Suburban - Blacked out, and lights
Several Mustang Gt's - blacked out, and lights
Minivans - looks like a soccer mom's vehicle (with lights)

Etc

The county is doing the same - I think it's great - I'd rather pay to maintain those then buy new

Minus the Exotics... there's no reason not to use a regular vehicle as a Cop car...

The last one that surprised me was a gold/yellow 2005 ish Dodge Durago... blacked out but had LED lights EVERYWHERE...  again you wouldn't know from seeing it normally...
