DIY - Removing / replacing your 3rd Gen radio bezel.
« on: July 02, 2008, 09:32:40 pm »
Some folks have asked how to remove their radio bezel to access the radio or to replace it. Well, it is a bit more involved than just the two screws for the bezel itself. Basically, the entire ceter stack has to come out to access those two screws.

It's not hard at all, just a few screws and hex heads is all. It's just more involved than simply pulling the bezel out.

Here is the process.....

Nice, anyone know how having a manual tranny would affect the process?

Would just have to remove the stick and the boot.

Other than that, same process.

It can also be done without removing the transfer case lever.  You can pull the boot up over the knob and then lift the console up and turn the boot sideways and it will go through the hole in the console.  But it is just as easy to take that 1 bolt out like Rich says....The first one of these i did, I did not know about the hidden screws.  I thought that it was all clips and I broke the tabs that the screws go through.  Starting in 2008, not all trucks have these PITA screws.  Nice work there Rich, good job on the pics

Yeah, I wasn't expecting 2 hours of remove, replace, DIY type work.

I thought it would be go out, pull 2 screws, replace the bezel, be done with it.

Dave, how are the door panel pieces attached? Are they stick on or clips?

I'm gonna trade Az for his, unless it's a real PITA.

I can't remember if they are stuck on or if they have heat welds.  Will check it out and see.

It wasnt such a big deal with the manual.  When I reinstalled mine I left the two screws out so that if for some reason I do need to get back behind my deck its easy to remove.

Just a note on this one.  Mine didn't have the two screws in it from the factory, took all that apart and I like, "Hey, that's not cool at all!".....

Nah, I like to think the guy on the line was saying ("What retarded Engineer would put two screws right there").  Then he checked around him and said, "Yep, those two are in there, button up the cup holders"...haha!
