Hmmm, My questions would be. What if you DONT care about your warranty. The way it looks to me, they have now "modified" your vehicle so you cant do anything to it anymore even AFTER the WARRANTY period.... THAT would piss me off and is it even legal??

Wow, that is some bull sh*t right there. I hope somebody is working on an aftermarket ECM, or at least an entire flash program, that completely rewrites everything.

:censored: This disgusts me, not sure but it feels illegal to me...

...Imagine if you bought a new IBM laptop with Linux on it.  IBM offers a warranty on the parts for 3 years but only if you continue to use the manufacturer provided operating system.  However, you decide to put Vista on the laptop.  So one day your hard drive goes out and IBM could say "Vista caused the drive to fail because the OS was too hard on the drive."  I know it's not a great example but you can see a bit of similarity.

It's your laptop\truck and you should be able to use it as you see fit.  Where this falls down is when guys load up the Edge hot unlock and blow out their TQ.  They put the truck back to stock and ask Dodge to fix it ... No, you wanna play, you've gotta pay (when it breaks).  So when you think about Dodge tracking the # of flashes to the ECM, it makes sense.  They are trying to see if you are flashing, returning to stock and then bringing it back to them to fix.  In this scenario, they are within their rights to void your warranty based on the terms and conditions it sets forth.

What I'd like to see is a clear deliniation between warrantied systems - body, chassis, motor, drivetrain.  You decide to flash the ECM and turn your truck into a fast and furious 4x4, fine ... the motor and drivetrain warranties are void.  However, the remaining warranties would stay in tact.  A few dealers work this way and use their own judgement when making warranty claims on modded trucks, most do not.

I've been patiently waiting and watching the developments of H&S, BADP, Edge, etc in the hopes of helping to *improve* the life of my Cummins, not shorten it.  For Dodge to disable MY $45k truck rending it useless when\if I use a programmer is no different than planting a virus in my laptop without my knowledge.  Dodge has an obligation to disclose to us, the consumer, of any and all programmatic changes to the ECM that could render the truck inoperable.  At that time, I can chose to not accept their new flash and be on my way.

Just my .05 cents worth.

Wow, that's pretty crazy. I haven't run into any yet.

There are some dealers out there that will still warranty the ECM for you though  ;)
Just hard to come by.

Can't wait to see who comes up with some way around it.

Yeah, there are, check out www.bosch-motorsports.com. They have once called a 15.1 thats $6000+ and thats NOT including changing out sensors, wiring and custom programming. My guess is you are talking 15k+ but you would have a computer programmable to your hearts content.

Hey Rich, when are you upgrading yours?  :43:

I guess the CARB/EPA has found a way to enforce their emission laws.

I'm assuming this will increase the resell value on my 05...

I understand WHY Dodge is doing this, but I don't like HOW they are doing it.

Someone will get around it, or some ECM will throw a code in the middle of an intersection and kill someone and Dodge will drop it.

Why doesn't dodge offer the "badass" model of the Cummins pre-modded and all engine/drivetrain warranties modifed?

A twin turbo 6.7 with head studs, cold air, giant intercooler, billet tranny and a hot tune from the factory would be a fun box to check for those who have the cash.

Ford knew people who bought the cobra mustang would romp on it so they built it with all forged internals... now almost every Saleen I've seen has blown the non-forged engine and swapped to a cobra.. just to compare dodge could overbuild the Cummins and then push it over the stock specs and still maintain the longevity to satisfy the bean counters.
DoF, it's like family, but with more straight jacket and less restraining order.

1 Problem I see for dealers that try to warranty this issue is the new diag tool.  It is a wireless system that pulls flashes off the internet.  I assume when I hook up a vehicle to the diag tool to check for problems, since it is wireless internet, someone at Dodge could look at what I am doing.  If they see a flash done, they can also see what the DTC was that caused the need for the flash.  You would be surprised as to what I can see about a vehicle with the new Can Bus systems.  If you burn a CD with music you download off the internet, I can tell.  A code sets that says "implausible cd data".  Meaning it does not see the copyright info the music owner puts on a store bought CD.  I foresee, one day big brother will send you a ticket for speeding or playing burned CDs using the data supplied by the manufacture.  The truck beams up a signal to a satellite and it goes to a Gov't watchdog somewhere who in turn sends you a bill for you illegal deeds...

ok ina way this makes sense.

when they offered the lifetime powertrain warrenty, they wanna cover their ass so they don't get fucked over in the long run.

plus with them bein on the edge, they tightened down so they don't have to do an ass load of warrenty work when they are struggling.
