a/c issues
« on: July 05, 2009, 02:21:21 am »
well as summer has hit and in triple digits everyday i started using my a/c but have realized something. I don't know if this is normal and i just don't know it or there is an issue. when i turn on the a/c it blows colder then winter but when i hit to high of rpms or start pullin a hill it cuts out. I'm assuming that its a vaccum issue when i let off the gas or the hill levels off the a/c returns and works fine. input is much appreciated. thanks.

There is a vacuum line that runs below your battery tray that controls the A/C vents. Check that line, it is very common in 2nd gens for acid from the battery to leak onto it and eat through the vacuum line.

it sounds like you need to have the system serviced... you may have a restriction somewhere and your high side pressure may be becoming too hot and kicking your fan clutch out...try taking it to a car wash and blowing through the condenser with the rinse cycle and cleaning that will help, then maybe cleaning the coils in your evaporator under the dash board... or if you have a set of gauges hook them up and tell us your pressures and that would also help to troubleshoot your problem

hope this helps

forgot also the filter in your txv(thermal expansion valve) may be clogged also...

If the air blows out the defrost vents when it stops blowing out the vents, then you are losing vacuum or it could be the check valve.  My 96 did the same thing and it was the check valve.
