Lesson 10: Firefox Personas
« on: September 03, 2009, 09:51:55 pm »
Okay, this is a fun one to dress up your firefox browser.  The first thing you'll need to do is head to http://www.getpersonas.com/ and install the personas application.

Now, onto the fun.

Step 1
The first thing we'll need to do is create the header image.  This needs to be a 3000x200 px jpg or png file.

Now bring in your image into the file.  We're going to be creating one using Jo's truck.  The header image is locked to the right side of the screen, so make sure to place any images you really want to see in the right hand side of the image.  The left side of the image will fill in as you expand the browser window and wont be seen on most monitors.

Just erasing part of the background as we'll be putting a new background behind the truck.

Now import the background image.  I'm using the sky from a picture I took on Lopez Island.

After some color adjustments

Finishing off with an overlay layer.

Now the image must be saved as either a jpg or png file and the file size must be less that 300kb.

The completed header image.

Step 2

Now onto the footer image.  This image has to be 3000x100 px and either jpg or png format.

We're going to use the same background sky image from the header to tie both images together.

And we're going to use another image from Jo's album.  This time a rear end shot.

Erase the background

Now the footer image is fixed on the left side of the screen, so we need to flip the image so that the tail lights are always seen.

Save the image as a jpg or png making sure the file size is less than 300kb.

Here is the finished footer image.

Step 3

Now we need to create the persona in firefox.  In the bottom left of the screen is a little fox icon.  Clicking it will open up the personas menu.

The first thing we need to do is go to preferences and check the box that says "show custom persona in menu".

Then we can go to custom persona>edit

Give the persona a name then hunt down the header and footer images.

Your persona should now be activated.

Additional

You can also upload your personas to http://www.getpersonas.com/ or find other personas to try out.

Right now, I'm waiting for the persona created here to upload.  When it does, I'll provide a link so you can use it.

cheers,
