Dakota, Tacoma, Ranger, doesn't matter. Engines and o2 sensors all work the same. The o2 sensor reads o2. If it reads too much, they you are either too lean or have a exhaust leak. The exhaust pulse sucks in air through the leak. Or could be that it is too close to the exhaust exit, effecting scavenging. lengthen the exhaust or create some back pressure to rule that out.

there will be no lengthening of the exhaust... just cant do that... lol
but i'll be fixing the one leak i have first thing tomorrow and pray that thats it,

but these guys know what these trucks/motors like, plus a few of them have probly screwed up the same way i have...lol

I don't mean permanently, just to check to see if your o2 sensor is being effected by how close it is to the exit.
BTW, how close is it? And how far did you move it from it's original placement?

i got you, was just playing around ;)...
its right where it used to be, only difference is that its not in a y pipe,
would it be getting a bad reading since its only getting 1 bank?

Is there only 1 o2 sensor for both banks?

It wouldn't give you a dirty reading that you are seeing, but you should plumb a Y into it so it can see both banks.

As the truck is idling, disconnect the sensor and see if it effects the idle quality at all.

ive done that, it doesnt make any change other than it throws a o2 sensor code.

i know i should... but i dont wanna... lol

There are ways around that if you want to get rid if it completely. Measure the resistance of the o2 sensor when it is fully heated. Just unplug it from the exhaust after the truck is up to temp. Then disconnect power, and measure it's resistance with an ohm meter. Build you a sim with resistors to match the o2 sensors resistance. Wala!

haha, you make it sound simple.. like doing a carb conversion... or running standalone engine management, which might be in the future with this truck.
but i gotta build a certain red 97 first

It is easy. I know you've got a multimeter in that shop you work at. Turn the dial to the OHM/diode setting, and check it's resistance. Electrical and electronics is so simple

It's just a resistor of the right size stuck in series

Radio Shack should have resistors in stock.
You can't fix stupid

Im sure I could figure it out. I put together  a set of led headlight/taillights for my old r/c car did the resistors and such... But I wrap my head around making metal do what I want a whole lot better...lol
