Well, as usual, you can't rely on the weatherman!
Rained on and off all day, but I still logged 360 miles, and got to visit the memorial
I took some pics on the way up:
Stopped at the Gettysburgh battlefield for a P break and some water when this pulled in Pretty cool!!
:
The couple is from Ohio (both are "little people") and he specially modified the bike so he could reach the controls
He said he has a Gold Wing about 60% completed being modified so he can ride it (also a sidecar bike, as he can't reach the ground on a standard height bike)
Shots from the battlefield:
Then I got some pictures from the crash site in Shanksville PA (where Flight 93 went down) - they are still building the permanent memorial - they expect 1st phase completion by 9/11/11
Even thought it looks like a huge construction site, it's still pretty moving to just stand there. One of the plaques there explained that where we were standing, the plane came over at about 40 to 50 feet off the ground at about 580 MPH,
and completed rolling over to inverted, and crashed into the ground where that American Flag is flying (if you can see it in the picture)
The exact site: The bodies of the 40 persons on board the plane are all buried here, and this ground will not be disturbed - the memorial will encircle the area
one of the memorials on the fence (at the site overlook)
The 40 persons who lost their lives when the plane went down:
I took pictures of all the posters explaining the events that day - all the pictures are here:

I just think these things are cool!
Stopped at an overlook that used to have a restaurant/hotel shaped like a boat
The weather-man's
Partly Cloudy
This barn is on the side of the Lincoln Highway (pretty cool murals)
I saw several of these old gas pumps painted like this...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_Airlines_Flight_93To the 40 passengers and crew that refused to stand by and let it happen: I salute you
To the 4 that made them have to make that decision: I hope you rot in hell...
