Dyno Day @ Turbo Technology (Tacoma, WA)!!!
« on: January 06, 2012, 07:14:16 am »
My apologies for the late notice, but based on the current response I have for this day I can EASILY get another day going with them if any of you are interested.  I know there's some Dodge owners in the area that would be interested in a dyno day, just gotta find 'em!

Here's what I've got going on --

When: Saturday, 14 Jan 2012, doors open @ 0900

Where: Turbo Technology, 6211 South Adams St, Tacoma, WA 98409

How much: $30 for 1st run, $10 each additional run

Who: Everyone/everything is invited, 1st come first served on the list....

If you know someone that's not a forum weenie and they're into this kind of stuff, give them the info and have them contact me, or, just plain show up.  :)

Reply here, PM, or call/text @ FIVE05-FOUR80-FIVE923.

Here's the current list as of 13 Jan 2012:

Keeping the main list at 20, but Turbo Tech said if people are still around after that and are still game to run they have no problems keeping the doors open.  So, if you would like to run, let me know and I'll continue to fill the stand-by list.  :)

There's several heavy-hitters on the list from the local area, and I hope they follow through and show up!  Should be a great day to hang out amongst other gear heads.  I've got people coming from Silverdale to Portland and everywhere in between.  Turbo Tech said they have a gas grille and would be happy to let us use it.  A few people are talking about gathering up a little cash (donations only, $5-ish each??) and sending a runner to Costco or wherever to pick up some burgers to burn.  Even if you don't dyno, come on out and get out of the house for a day.  Bring a lawn chair!

I called about the Dyno and they didn't seem to enthusiastic about diesels in general.  Said their tack pick up has a hard time reading diesel trucks and didn't want the shop full of smoke.

Edit  I checked the website and their dyno reads up to 1500 hp.

Not my dyno, I'm just a coordinator.  I do need to touch base with them, hopefully today to make sure they're ready.  I'll also pop the question about diesels, hell I'd love to see it in action.  I can see how that would suck though having exhaust stacks it wouldn't go out of the shop too well unless they had some kind of tubing to hook over the ends of the pipe.  Actually, I think it would be hilarious...

That's been done before! ask Rich and Hux Racing.

That being said, some simple 6" diameter metal tubing can easily be manipulated and route the exhaust in most scenarios.  does work better if there is something there to hold the pipes on...  (then a sudden boost won't kick it off)

Hard for them gas guys to look impressive when a built diesel shows up.  Better to limit the competition!

The guy just seemed uneasy about filling the shop with smoke.  I'm sure if you told them you were bringing a means to clear the smoke they'll be a little more welcoming.

I can understand where he is coming from.  It is a pet peve of mine when someone works in my bay at work and makes a mess and then leaves and doesn't clean up.

Tabor & Austin have a GREAT time!

We already have plans (and tickets) to be at Monster Jam that day ... so no picture taking from me that day.

The guy just seemed uneasy about filling the shop with smoke.  I'm sure if you told them you were bringing a means to clear the smoke they'll be a little more welcoming.

The reason for that is, he said he's done it before but got his ass chewed, and I can understand it.  They have a lot of high-dollar cars sitting in their shop and can't have all that stuff settling in/on those customer cars.

I did stop by last night and spoke with them.  I've got 20 on the main list and 8-9 on the backup list.  They're ready to go.  I spoke with a local wheel company and they may be showing up as well, if any of you are in the market for wheels I guarantee you won't be disappointed.  They have very high quality nice stuff.

There's some pretty cool projects in the shop right now - I eyeballed a cherry '95-ish Impala SS with an LS7 plunked in the engine bay.  sweet!

Also, a local shop owner in Monroe has laid down the gauntlet for this day:  "We have a challenge. We just set the Emissions legal N/A HP record on a local dyno. Who thinks they can take it from us at TTi? Thats right! Muffled with Cats we layed it down by a BIT more then a Z06 427, on pump gas!"

At Hux Racing Eric has some 8" ductwork that gets slit over the stacks or tailpipe, etc..... it works well.  I'll ask him if he has pics of it.

Is it a load cell dyno?  If not it wont do much good for the diesel guys making more than 500 hp.  It won't load the motor enough to make full boost and you'll wind up coming up short.

I even had to add load when I dynoed my Chevelle to match the boost it makes on the street, 10 or 15% if I remember correctly.

According to the site, it is a dyno jet dyno.  If this is gonna be a big hassle with setting their shop up so I can run, then I wont worry about running.
