BTW, I use red loc-tite on almost everything.

Just use a drop on each bolt and it's fine. It's ain't coming out on it's own, but it's not bad to get out.

Good to hear, I'm getting ready to pull on this in the not too distant future myself. Tired of spinning this front end for nothing,

Wait until you pull all that crap and see how much extra dead weight you're actually turning.

Hell, just the short side axle assembly is 25 pounds. The passenger is side is about 10 lbs heaviers. Front driveshaft is about 20 lbs. Front ring and pinion are about 15 lbs. That's almost 100 lbs of dead, rotating weight, plus friction.

Yeah, no crap. I use my 4 wheel drive about half a dozen times a year (not counting inclement weather). Time to unlock.

Ditto,
I think that I have Red Loctite on every fastener on my snowmobile. If you have to remove a bolt and the Loctite won't release, I just heat it up a little and it will usually let go.

On the Loc-tite Red I used all the time on my race car for the drive shaft bolts and you just had to touch the heat to the bolts and they come right out, just have good goves on to grab the bolt.

Give yourself at least a day to complete. All depends on how easy your unit bearings and front u-joints want to be. Good luck.

So can I add on to this or do I need to start my own?

Only problem I see adding on to this thread with your DIY, is since we are already on page two, folks might not see it. It's really up to you.

Stupid question, but here goes... So now to engage 4WD you have to get out and manually lock both front hubs, then get back in the cab and shift the transfer case?

Or, you could leave the hubs locked and just shift the transfer case when it's needed. But, that would be defeating the intended purpose.
