OK so updates from today: (sorry no pictures...to much rum in that dt. coke and to many beers w/dinner I don't trust myself with a card )
Tom's head studs are done: spence, Frone & Mayfair all took more than their fare share of turns at the torque wrench on this one....way to go guys great community effort
Ryan's TC lock-up & 4th gear lock up is done...not fully tested because he's in the middle of the driveway
Mayfair: ABS sensor is replaced. Dave showed up and started w/ the star scan on almost every truck and found a thing or two for everyone to fix :D
Rob's air intake is in and happy as can freaking be. It spools up so much louder and happier now...we had to take an hour field trip just to listen to it sing
Now for the big story....Walt's truck: lock up switches are in and tested good. Twins are being hung...Rich has invented more than a few new cuss words today.
Drew's driverside door lock assembly decided to take a shit today. It's really funny to watch a over 6 foot man crawl through the passenger door...around the manual shifter...to get behind the wheel  To bad no one with in driving distance has the part...or it would have been fixed today. Part is on order and will be ready for him when he returns from AT.
Everyone who can help (also read as Jo is staying out of the freaking way  ) has gotten their hands dirty at some point today.
-
Have I mentioned yet Walt's cook'n?
Holly cow boys and girls this man can cook!!!!
So far he's hooked us up w/ craw fish...venison...bbq chicken...ribs...sausage (omg sausage - you gotta understand how good these were)
We've all put on 5 LBS

Man thats a lot of trucks
Whats the neighbors think????
-
Good Gosh. That Walt character can cook. I'll have some pictures up later but I didnt take a lot this time. I spent more time helping everyone else and LOVED every minute of it. We had a nice convoy to the Hux Racing dyno this morning. I don't know all the numbers but Donnys truck with its new stick ROCKS. There was also something about a burnout in front of Richs house.. but I missed that being at the head of the convoy...He did have an EAR-TO-EAR smile after his dyno run AND he gets a new banner by his name....
Oh Yeah, I get a new one too. :whistling:
More later..
OK, Its later... Tom's (kilch) truck is really sweet ride. It runs good even when he misses third gear.... ;D
Frone Daddy's stacks rock.
Spence can wrench.
Hell, ALL the trucks were nice.

I got to drive Rich's truck today, man it is nice, i blow a little smoke but took it easy but it still will get up and move. :D

I would have loved to have been there. If nothing else, just for the eats. But, you know how it goes so many projects so little time.

So the 5 hour drive up there went alot faster without the coastal traffic jam and being lost about 42miles from rich's lol I'm GPS shopping soon!... Fell asleep on the couch going through the forum so thats why I didn't post last night lol
It was a great time all around and as soon as I get my software issues figured out I'm heading back up to earn my badge!!!!!
As for the wallet getting lighter just being on the DOF trying being around all these guys (and Frog) all at once my mod list just had a few sheets stapled to it :helpsmilie:

Finally made it to work... Pics are uploading to photobucket now
Tough drive up (sat night was 5 hours sleep) and then wrenching all day on Walt's Patriot Missile, then setting off for a 14 hour drive
Ended up hooking up with Donny for some grub at the Cracker Barrel just north of Atlanta and finally had to close my eyes for 2 hours in Spartansburg, then drove the rest this morning
First, I've got to thank Rich for hosting this event, and as already stated, our designated chef for some outstanding grub!
Rich - you rock brotha! I had a blast!
Walt - I want to get that gumbo recipe from you...
I really enjoyed putting faces/voices to the usernames and meeting all you guys!
Caught another good plate on the way up the road:

What a great freakin' time. It was great to meet everyone. Wish I could have gone to the dyno though  but I needed to get a good night sleep Sunday night for work on Monday.
I think I had the longest trip (by truck) maybe other than Donny. It was 14 hours, I got great mileage on the way home though , only used 1 1/4 tank (I think it was).
Tom, thanks for the place to crash & the hospitality.
Rich, thanks for providing the place for us all to hang out...and the bathroom
Walt, the cooking was AMAZING! Those crawfish were probably the best thing I've ever eaten!
Rob & Nick, I appreciate the help in troubleshooting that solenoid. New one will be here on Thursday.
Drew, thanks for taking my torque wrench, I'll PM you my address.
Dave, thanks for hooking me up on the speedo re-calibration.
Donny, thanks for the laughs. A couple times you had me laughin' pretty hard.....allegedly
And next time you migh want to make sure your exhaust isn't pointing into the screened in porch before you roll some coal.....I'm just sayin'
You guys that weren't there missed a great time! I too have some pics & vids and will get them up.

Tom, quit drooling....

I cant wait to hear how he likes his whole setup now...
Tom, quit drooling....
I just talked to Walt a few minutes ago.....
To say the least, he seems like a "Happy Camper".
He said that before the install he would drop a gear once in a while on hills; would slow down on some hills due to EGT's and mileage was around 12 MPG.
Now, he says that he never touched 1200* on the whole ride back, the truck never down shifted once and he was getting approx 15 MPG.
Not to shabby baby!
:D
-
Walt, were you able to make it up to the dyno?
-
Walt, were you able to make it up to the dyno?
Walt, Tom and I didn't make it up there. We didn't finish buttoning things up and then getting Tom packed up until about 3 PM.
-
SUP GANG ?!?!?
I got back at about 2:00 I guess. Man I am BEAT !! I think we left the dyno at 4:00, and aside from 2 gas stops, hooking up with Kilch for some chow, and a 4 hour nap, it was all driving. I was FINALLY able to get 500 miles out of a tank of fuel though
:punk:
Stuff I learned ....
The new sticks ROCK !!! The difference they make are night and day. :punk:
The dyno was a blast. I managed with Drew's stellar dyno driving to pull a 419hp and a 902 tq.
AWESOME !!! :punk:
I think Hux is gonna hire Drew though for ALL of their diesel dyno'ing.
Thanks Drew !!
My Suncoast tranny is STOUT !! It shifts like a bitch now. I MAY be having a problem with it shifting too fast though. We'll see tomrrow when I do some more city driving. It seems to be shifting right from 2nd to 3rd with no delay between the two We'll see ..
I got my new ABS rear brake sensor in thanks to Dave, and for some reason it crapped out again somewhere in Virginia :argh:
I DID learn something though. My speedo IS effected by that sensor. When it crapped out, it bumped my mileage off again,so apparently I DIDN'T need a recalibration.
The ashtray light is always on as long as the key is turned forward - Right Dave ...
Thanks again for all of your help brotha ... you ROCK !! :punk:
I also learned that Riv is apparently "Just getting by"
Rich and Amy live in a home that Better Homes and Gardens will be paying a visit to shortly.
:43:
Spence can not only turn some wrench's, but he HAS the wrench's !! I seriously think we would have been screwed if he didn't bring his tools. Spence also knows a thing or two about electrical stuff as HE was the one who figured out Frones soleniod problem. PROPS to Spence !!
Ray can play a MEAN ass Rock Band, whereas Drew can't drum to save his life, and Rich was also a tad behind. I of course ROCKED !! :punk:
( had it set to easy ... )
Aero's truck looks a LOT better in person !! Not that it looks bad in pics, but in person it almost looks like it has a little flake to it. It's WICKED !! Sucked that he couldn't get the SR. to tune though.
Frones stacks kicked everybody elses exhaust as far as looks and sound goes easily. It really wasn't even a contest. Those things are SWEET !!
He has no horns though .... :43:
Nick will forever now be known to me as "Chef" as he's planning on going to culinary school. He really SHOULD start at Riv's school first though.
:43:
Nick's kid Jerome is a chip off of the old block
:43:
Dave can put DOWN some Crown !!
I have no idea how he was able to function Sunday
Drew won the raffle !!!
:43:
Kilch likes salt on EVERYTHING !!
Rich has a dog who can open a screen door un-assisted
That kinda freaked me out
Frog is actually quite pleasant
 LMAO !!
Bikeman has blonde hair, but according to frog he doesn't have any hair at all.
:43:

Guys and Gal,
I REALLY wanna thank all of you that lent a helping hand with Walt's truck.
Everybody that turned a wrench, handed a part, ran to the store, brought a cold drink, etc........ was immensely helpful in getting this thing done.
Some of you got to experience the sheer PITA that some of those parts can be and how simple some of the others are. Some of the them may seem intimidating, but you CAN do a build in YOUR driveway.
You saw that we didn't use any super special tools, nothing that isn't easily available or couldn't be borrowed from your neighbor or auto parts store.
Also, I want to thank all of you that drove many, many hours driving and spent plenty of your own money to get here
I had a great time meeting and hanging out with you all. I wish I could have spent more time with each of you, but as you saw, we were a bit tied up... :argh:
I look forward to seeing you all again, this was a blast, I hope everyone had a great time.
I wish Tom, Walt and I could have made it up for the dyno, but it just wasn't in the cards......another day my friends, just gives us a reason for another G2G.
If you were there and had to drvie home, PLEASE post up and let us knpow you made it safely.
I told Amy about the gift you guys got her...she was SOOOO exicted. She really enjoyed having you guys over.
Thanks guys,
The Mad Scientist

Hopefully Amy's gift will be a gift that comes full circle
:43:
That was the intention anyway ...

I'll post more when I actually get to a computer I feel comfortable on. (I hate the keyboard at the dealership... emachines my ass)

Add your name to the list brotha!!
http://dodgeownerforums.com/smf/index.php?board=92.0 (http://dodgeownerforums.com/smf/index.php?board=92.0)
My Suncoast tranny is STOUT !! It shifts like a bitch now. I MAY be having a problem with it shifting too fast though. We'll see tomrrow when I do some more city driving. It seems to be shifting right from 2nd to 3rd with no delay between the two We'll see .. scratchhead
Donny- Although my few words probably wont amount to anything beneficial to your problem because i forgot what part needed to be replaced BUT we just had a trans replaces on a dump truck at work about a 2 months ago. It was a completely new trans ringing in somewhere around $5k :$: . I picked it up from the shop and drove it home and it did exactly what you explained. It was skipping 3rd going from 2nd into 4th with only a 2 second time span in 3rd. It took us a while to find the time to get it into the shop but once we did they said there was a pin that wasn't connected somewhere. Im not sure exactly what the diagnosis was but it sounds like the exact problem. They told us if we were to keep driving it like we were with the shifting problem like we were, that we would of needed another new trans VERY soon!
That place was not close to your neck of the woods, was it?
Now, as far as this thread goes.... Its very upsetting to not be able to be a part of this meet
It looks like SO much fun with SUCH good company!
I am still glad it happened though, it seems like a lot of bonding took place and its going to be pretty sweet to see it through out everyone's posts from now on.
Im still jealous that i could not take part in it so naturally y'all get this:
:fu:

OK Guys and Gal......guess I'm one of the last to report in safe and sound.
Wow......what a weekend. I've got to say that it was one of the Most memorable event that I've enjoyed in a very long time.
I especially enjoyed meeting everyone there and putting a personality with what we know of each other from our postings.
I want to personally Thank each and every person that took time out of their schedules to take part in the very first official DOF G2G.
I appreciate all the thoughtful help involved on my trucks build. There were quite a few hands helping out, but I want to especially Thank Rich for first ....hosting this event ....and secondly dedicating so much of his time and talent leading the build. Also.....Tom was right there with Rich......Thank you both for all the hard work guys.
I'm glad to have been able to contribute some grub for the hungry and sometimes hungover. I can turn a wrench, but not near as good as the better hands that were there. I figured my best help was making some meals that I'm comfortable with. ( Donny......ya don't know what you were missing with the Gumbo!)
I'm working on posting some pics........

What choo talkin bout Riv, that rice was GOOD !!

I just realized I had not checked in. I got home about 4pm yesterday. Was a very good gathering of folks. I had a blast. Between Donny and Walt, I had plenty of Crown to drink there and a lot left to bring home. Like everyone has said, Walt is a hell of a cook. Unlike Donny, I tried the gumbo and it was good. I wanna thank Ray for getting Geno's to send all the SWAG. JO took close to 400 pics, so when she gets back in the game, there will be lots to see.

well...
running 70 to 75 mph with the monster on the back, I was getting between 10 and 11 MPG

I think we all do now.
-
So how'd it run going home? No problems or hiccups?
No problems at all.
What I've noticed besides the Massive amount of unending power......
The engine runs very smooth. I had 80K on the original injectors, and like Rich had said, they were likely all crudded up. The new nozzles are smooth and efficient.
The engine is fairly quieter than before. Of course on the exhaust side, it's still roars, but at idle the twins just sing in harmony.
I told Rich on the phone about what my lie-o-meter was showing. It indicated 15.4 mpg while I was doing 65 mph towing behemoth. Well....sometimes if it's too good to be true, it usually is.
After speaking to Rich, I went out to fill up and do a hand calculate of the mpg's.
In truth....the mpg's were around 12 mpg. I think that next time I tow, I'll set the Smarty to a lower setting.
I did notice that the truck never down shifted while going up a grade, and also the egt's never hit 1200. That was something that the truck did constantly before the build.
All in all........I'm REALLY IMPRESSED!!!
I can't wait to shine it all up one weekend night and go huntin for ferds and chebys! ;D
-
Spence - sorry I missed you on Sunday. Definately wanted to shake your hand before leaving.

Sorry about that Rich. Like I was telling you earlier on the phone, it was NOT my intention to do a burnout at all, just to roll some coal on ya. Unfortunately that was the first time that I had driven the truck since putting the new sticks in and things just kinda got outta hand. I wasn't expecting that much power
Sorry :innocent:

I COULD have gone with just the tips, but apparently on 2nd gens ( and I may screw this up ), but apparently 2nd gens need to be pop tested after installing the tips, wheras on 3rd gens they don't. Riv installed his 3rd gen tips himself after Rich showed him how.

Ok, Officially, i made it home just fine. I got to spend quite a while behind Daves truck on the way home. Boy that thing can fly and smoke. Somebody needs to snap it up.
Poor Rob. He caught up with me after the Dyno, because some guy in a toyota truck was sight seeing. Every time we got to a straight away to try to pass, a car was coming the other way. And I must admit, I did send Rob a little more smoke than was necessary. He stopped at a store just before we got on the highway but soon caught me again when we hit a traffic jam caused by some idiot that was having car trouble. He stopped with all but 2 feet of his van off the road. Douche could have pushed it into the median, but I guess he was satisfied holding up traffic for miles. If I had of had a push bar......

That's Anthony (FroneDaddy)

It is only worse seeing and driving these trucks.
Hey Spence, I know where there's a BEAUTIFUL silver and black 2nd gen up for sale

Now that I have some room in my driveway and after making 4 passes on the track with a slightly bent driver side axle yoke, I figured I'd better turn a wrench or two on my own truck......
Started to take it apart last night and said, screw it......didn't feel like doing it. So my truck is up on the stands right now. I'll finish it when I get home today.

Well, I started installing the "new" exhaust today. I have discovered that
1. Its easiest to get the stock one out using a sawzall :devil2:
2. The exhaust on a Mega Cab is longer than one for a Quad cab short bed...
I didn't look it up but I'm thinking that the Mega cab is about the same length as a Quad Cab long bed. It was dark but it looks like I'll have to cut off about 1.5 to 2 feet of the existing pipe.
Its all good though. Cant wait to hear what it sounds like.

Mega Cab Short Bed = Same frame as a Quad Cab Long Bed... so, yeah, you're right

Rob......If you can remember what my new exhaust sounded like, yours ought to be very similar.

Its a kittyless 4" with an MBRP muffler. Now If work would just get over so I can go finish it :taz:
-
AWESOME vid !!
Shame you had to put the fenderwell back in
:43:
-
Work yeah...
So walt did you forget that 5th wheel was back there on your way down?
-
It's alive!
-
You fixed the solenoid Frone?
Did they give you a hard time about the bad one?
-
Work yeah...
So walt did you forget that 5th wheel was back there on your way down?
As much more easily as it pulls.....no...the weight is still there. Unless I had a Peterbilt or a Freightliner, the weight is a constant reminder. Now as far as getting the weight moving?.....I can get up to speed much more faster now. Passing is easier, no more downshifting to third gear, at least in the hills I went through.
Also, my temps were about 150 to 200 degrees cooler.
~ Update on the final tweeks ~
Took the truck to my muffler shop and had everything aligned and welded.
Had the A/C dryer line that was hanging next to the turbo boot bent about an inch away. Used a police tie wrap handcuff to secure it in place.
Bought some Dynamat insulation for that contact area between the big turbo and the frame below the shock tower.
I've got over 500 miles on it now.....if it ever quits raining, I'll adjust the waste gate for more boost.
I can tell ya'll now.......this friggen truck is gonna get me some tickets! I don't know when, or for what offense (most likely speeding), but this is a different truck now.
I'm like driving along......and I'm asking myself....." Why the hell is everyone driving sooooo slow? "
-

Some how I think it may be more likely to be Excessive Display Of Horsepower.
I bet a 3500 DRW MegaCab, rollin' coal and sliding sideways may have that effect.
;D
-
That's great!
Glad to hear that it's made you happy (that was the ultimate goal anyway)
Did the muffler shop install the 5" downpipe, or are you keeping the 4"?
-
Did the muffler shop install the 5" downpipe, or are you keeping the 4"?
I spoke to Dave @ BD Power, and he said that BD does not make a 5" downpipe. Guess I'll stick with what I have.
We're leaving for our trip out west in a week, probably wouldn't have time to re-work it before the trip anyway.
-
Have fun on your trip!
BTW - time to update your sig line - it's a tad lacking now!
-
So has your wife or either of the kids ridden with you yet? Or do they just think Dad is nuts and let you play with your "toys" by yourself ;D

You fixed the solenoid Frone?
Did they give you a hard time about the bad one?
Not yet, the new one should be here tomorrow and I already have a full day before work.
He said to me, 'since it's only a small item I can send you a return label so you don't have to pay shipping back to us...'
I'm thinking to myself, that's good because no matter what size item it is, if you want the damaged one back you better send a pre-paid label. It's not my fault I got a bad one, it's not theirs either but it's up to them to make me happy & their job to recoup that money from the maker of the solenoid.
-
In that last video on the picasa link somebodies truck sounds just like mine (straight 4" no muffler or cat) :punk:
-
Aaron, all those trucks sounded wicked but i do hear that one straight pipe (i remember from when mine was straight).

Well, I'll be skipping Dynoing for a while since I hit that new marker. I'd rather actually spend that cash on the "missing" parts for that last goodie I also installed today. I'll do another dyno when I get closer to hitting 600 hp.. :43:

It was an accident I swear
It was the first time that I had driven the truck with the new injectors and i was just trying to throw a little coal on rich and Riv. I didn't even realize that the tire hadbroken loose until i saw the white smoke. By then I just let off and let it roll.
Well ... you see the outcome ... :innocent:
I DID say that i wanted a STRONG truck as well
:43:
Do you think I should change my rotation pattern to a criss cross type of rotation now?
:43:
-
My neighbors were laughing about it yesterday.
I was over talking to Colby's dad and he was rollin'.....
He said Colby keeps telling his buddies that he did it.
-
i like that shortly after the mentioning that rich is gonna get worked over if his wife sees the posts about her workin in alaska, rich decides to change the subject to the crazy ass burnout! hahahaha

He pulled out of the riveway, had this grin on his face like a little kid that just got a new Big Wheel and LAYS INTO IT!
I swear, you could hear this sick, sadistic, evil laugh over all the smoke, tire sqeeling and exhaust as he tore down the street.
It was as if Satan himself had possessed Donny's truck and was on a b-line to hell!

all soot and no tire smoke or launches......PANSY!!!!!!!!!!! LOL!
-
Do you think I should change my rotation pattern to a criss cross type of rotation now?
Donny,
When you rotate a 4x4 you're supposed to criss-cross the front tires to the rear and bring the rears straight forward.
LF to RR
RF to LR
LR to LF
RR to RF
-
Unless you have directional tires.
-

Kick ass video though!!
-
Unless you have directional tires.
True.
I assume that someone with directional tires would be able to figure that one out though.

Yeah, i'm not sure if mine are directional. I'm gonna hafta check that out. I've always just rotated the fronts to the back. It's just easier in the parking lot

id bet a dollar on a dime that 99% of all truck rated (D & E Load Range) tires are NOT directional. Correct me if im wrong

Well, finally got to see the "band" video. Freakin' hillarious! I've seen Kiss do Detroit Rock City twice in Saginaw and once in Detroit, and the D.O.F. band needs a little work. Donny's no Ace but he did good. I think I'd switch him from guitar to vocal.....

I looked at mine and I don't think they are. I didn't see an arrow anyway.
They'd put the arrow on both sides right?
-
My Toyo AT's are not directional.
