EFILive For Dummies!
« on: August 06, 2011, 02:38:11 am »
This is meant to be a brief orientation and overview of using EFILive!

It is NOT all encompassing!

It will NOT make you a master tuner!

It WILL allow you to understand some of the basic functions and how to modify tables and parameters within EFILive!

All pictures contained here in are from a STOCK TUNE, using STOCK maps and values.

As with any other performance product, you use at your own risk and I take no responsibility for you causing damage to your vehicle or yourself.

All the modifications made during this tutorial are entirely for demonstration purposes only.

Let's take a walk....

Life sucks.....so drop your pants and let the good times roll!

I think life is too short to spend your time working someplace where people don't crap their pants at the mere sight of you.

Wow dude.. really good info.. I am thinking with taxes next year i wanna get into at least the tune loader and have you write me a simple tune to "clean" stuff up.. I rarely put my edge above 2 anymore.. seems to be the best throttle response and mileage average for me right now, but I can defintely see the benefit of smoothing some of the tables and having more linear responses. Good work buddy, not bad for a grunt.

Yeah, like I was saying, it's a got a STEEP learning curve to it but once you understand it, and more importantly the data logging, it's a lot easier.

Here's what some of my current maps look like compared to those stock maps in the tutorial....

Here's an idea of what understanding the data logging lets you see.

These are the areas in my fuel map that I tend to see...I broke them down into daily driving (want low smoke), passing (light haze is acceptable) and full bore (smoke is of little concern).

Understanding the areas in your maps that your truck operates in certain conditions lets you fine tune those areas that are the most used and not waste time on things that are never going to get use (i.e. 26000 psi of rail pressure at 750 RPM's)....not happening.

To add to Rich's point about logging your vehicle.  I was having a smoke issue under medium acceleration when cruising at about 50 mph.  After logging I found the issue but also realized it was (inadvertently) caused by my tire size.
All else being equal, with larger tires your engine runs at  a lower RPM. Since I was accelerating harder, it pushed the ECM into using different area of the tables that you wouldn't normally use in day to day driving.
Logging is by far the best way to figure out whats going on and its also pretty damn cool to see in real time what your engine is doing.

Awesome explanations guys, Rob I don't think that tire size would have ever crossed my mind as a correlation to lower engine rpms. Dang Rich that is a big difference in the graphs compared to the stock ones. Now I can't wait to start logging, adjusting and for the most part learning more about my own truck
